Description
Kentucky State Police is the premier, full service law enforcement agency in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Primary Role: The Kentucky State Police CVE Program Support Branch is responsible for providing investigative and administrative support for the entire Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division. The candidate who fills this position will play a critical role in reviewing and certifying inspection and collision reports received at the branch. Additionally, the candidate will often be the first point of contact with individuals contacting the branch via phone or e-mail. Excellent customer service skills and a willingness to assist others are desired qualities. Finally, the candidate will provide a variety of administrative support functions including: drafting memos and correspondence, compiling data and preparing reports, and serving as a backup timekeeper.
Key Responsibilities:
Retrieves commercial vehicle crash data from Kentucky Open Portal Solutions (KYOPS) database, reviewing correcting, and verifying the accuracy of the data and uploading the data into the federal Safetynet program.
Contacts law enforcement agencies motor carriers, and other entities to verify and correct crash data
Drafts correspondence and memos for purchase requests on behalf of commander.
Provides administrative support to the branch including answering phones and certifying the receipt of signed and corrected inspection reports in the SafetyNet database.
Analyzes and compiles data when preparing reports to ensure compliance with federal state and agency reporting requirements
Serves as Back up time keeper, receives and processes overtime activity reports/summaries from the entire Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division
Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Customer Service skills and experience communicating with the public via phone and e-mail
Computer Literacy including word processing, database, and excel spreadsheets
Attention to detail
Verbal and written communication skills including experience drafting reports and memoranda
Experience working with collision reports in a law enforcement setting
Experience with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations and the NAS Commercial Motor Vehicle Inspection procedure

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: One year of professional, administrative, or business experience.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Additional education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Additional administrative, business, research, and/or clerical experience will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
