About Whitten Regional Center

Whitten Regional Center is a residential facility of the South Carolina Department of Disabilities and Special Needs located in Clinton, SC serving residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Functions as the switchboard operator for Whitten Center and assists the Facility Officer of the Day with various duties, primarily with obtaining staffing coverage in the residential service area and disseminating information to appropriate areas of the facility.

  • Answers and screens calls coming into the switchboard, forwarding calls as appropriate and taking messages as needed. Facilitates obtaining emergency services as needed.

  • Assists the Facility Officer of the Day with obtaining residential service staffing numbers and documents as appropriate. Assists with completion of target staffing documents.

  • Prepares the daily FOD and Switchboard logs documenting the activities of the FOD and Switchboard operator for each shift. Disseminates the logs appropriately.

  • Greets visitors coming into the Administration Building, issues visitor badges, answers general questions of visitors, contacts units/program areas of visitors. Assists family/staff with questions re: trips/home visits.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

There are no minimum training or experience requirements for this class.

Preferred Qualifications

A high school diploma and one year of clerical experience. Requires a general knowledge of office practices and procedures. Sufficient knowledge of vocabulary to ensure accuracy in spelling. Must be proficient in computer programs, particularly Excel and Word. Must possess good visual and communication.

Immunization: If this position requires the applicant to work directly with DDSN consumers, a (2) step PPD testing or QuantiFERON TB Gold testing must be completed prior to beginning employment. All new employees who are healthcare providers are required to provide documentation of immunity or be immunized against measles, mumps, rubella, pertussis, Varicella and Hepatitis B prior to beginning employment.

State Disaster Plan: In accordance with the State's Disaster Plan, which includes hazardous weather, DDSN employees may be required to work in times of an emergency or disaster.
