This position reports to the Administrative Officer at a minimum custody male correctional facility and will perform all functions related to Human Resources. Job responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Processing various benefits, such as Separations, Leave of Absences (LOAs), Voluntary Shared Leave, Worker's Compensation, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA).

  • Communicating with facility staff members in person, by phone and via email about policies and procedures regarding a benefit request and or clarification of specific benefits.

  • Performing work within a Human Resources Integrated System (HRIS) and using Microsoft Office software.

  • Reviewing confidential documents and verifying data is complete and accurate before submission for approval.

  • Performing timesheet entry with accuracy for weekly payroll and may perform other administrative duties upon request.

  • Assisting with the Hiring Process, scheduling interviews, preparing employment packages, completing employee references and background checks and new hire orientation.

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits with established working hours of Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm and may require working beyond normal work schedule to meet business need.

The salary grade for this position is NC08 (Salary Range: $36,682 - $64,194). State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.

About Wake Correctional Center:

Wake Correctional Center in Raleigh is a minimum-security prison for adult males. It is primarily a "work" unit in that 80 percent of the offenders leave the facility each day for incentive wage work assignments in various state agencies in the Wake County area.

Offenders also work at other area adult correctional-facilities and Correction Enterprises operations. There are also offenders nearing their release date that participate on the work release program, leaving the facility to work for businesses in the community. Incentive wage work assignments are also available at the prison in the food service, clothes house, janitorial, landscaping, maintenance, canteen, and recreation areas.

Wake Technical Community College works with the prison to provide full-time vocational classes in Certified Communications, Heating/Air Conditioning and Electrical Wiring. Part-time classes in Blueprint Reading and Horticulture are also available. Educational classes in GED, college-level courses and college correspondence classes are available.

High School diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of related administrative experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
