Departmental Objective
This position will support two departments:
Department of Economics Objective : The mission of the Department of Economics is to educate and prepare undergraduate students for graduate studies and for leadership in business and community. We accomplish this by building on students' liberal academic foundation and enhancing communication, analytical and technological skills through individual attention, intellectual growth and applied learning.
Department of Military Science Objective: The mission of the Military Science Department is to educate, train, inspire, and commission graduates of Christopher Newport University who are leaders of character committed to the Army Values - loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity, and personal courage; to professional growth throughout a career as an officer in the United States Army, the Army National Guard, or the United States Army Reserve; and to a lifetime of selfless service to the community and to the nation.
Purpose of the Position
The administrative secretary aids in the day-to-day functioning of the Economics and Military Science departments. This position demonstrates the commitment of the university and the college to key CNU values by providing the highest quality of customer service to students, faculty, staff, and guests. This position interacts and assists ROTC students, helps answer questions, and provides basic academic advising to ROTC students.

Knowledge of office procedures and methods, office equipment and record keeping

This is an HOURLY position and does NOT entitle the incumbent to Commonwealth of Virginia benefits and is limited to 1500 hours in a 365-day period;
This position works during the academic year only and will reflect the academic calendar, August 2024 - May 2025.
Selected candidate will be required to attend a 2-Day New Employee Orientation Program.
