Performs complex and responsible clerical, secretarial, and administrative duties for a district administrator or the principal of an elementary school. Clerical duties require the ability to perform skilled typing/keyboarding using a standard computer keyboard.

CURRENT VACANCY: One (1) full-time permanent position (8 hrs/day, 10.5 mos/yr), with full benefits, at Lincoln Elementary School. The resulting list from this recruitment will be used to fill both permanent and substitute (temporary) positions during the validity period.

A TYPING CERTIFICATE IS REQUIRED WITH THIS APPLICATION: MINIMUM 50 NET WORDS PER MINUTE WITH 80% ACCURACY. Please see special instructions below regarding this requirement.

Examples of Duties

  • Reviews, logs, determines priority, and routes correspondence.

  • Composes and prepares correspondence independently.

  • Acts as receptionist, screens calls and visitors, and refers inquiries, as appropriate.

  • Explains District policies and procedures in person or by phone; assists students, parents, and teachers by providing information.

  • Uses computer to type a variety of materials such as charts, memoranda, requisitions, letters and reports.

  • Makes appointments and arranges conferences and meetings.

  • Relieves supervisor of routine personnel, budget, and payroll functions; orders, receives, and stores a variety of supplies.

  • Initiates and maintains a variety of files and records of information such as payroll, budget and student enrollment, progress, transfers, attendance, and accidents.

  • Maintains manuals and updates resource materials.

  • May serve as secretary to a committee preparing the agenda and taking minutes of meetings.

  • May provide technical or functional supervision to general clerical positions.

  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Employment Standards

Minimum Requirements:

Experience: Two years of recent experience in increasingly responsible and complex clerical work.

Typing Certificate: Minimum 50 net words per minute with 80% accuracy (see information below).

License or Certificate: Possession of a Standard Red Cross First Aid Certificate within three months of employment.

Desirable: Written and oral proficiency in an additional language.

TYPING CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENTS: MINIMUM 50 NET WORDS PER MINUTE WITH 80% ACCURACY.

Acceptable: Certificates from an employment/temp agency, a government agency, a business college, an adult school, or a public school system. Certification may be in the form of a certificate, letter, or a form and must include the following information:

1.Name, address, telephone number of issuing agency and name and signature of person certifying the results.

2.Name of applicant.

3.Date of test. The test must be dated within two years of the application filing date. Certificates older than two years are not accepted.

4.Gross typing speed, net speed, and number of errors or percentage of accuracy.

5.Duration of test in minutes.

A typing certificate must be attached. If desired, resumes and other supporting documents may be scanned and attached to supplement a completed application form.

A review of applicants' experience and qualifications will be conducted. Based on that evaluation, a limited number of top-qualifying applicants whose qualifications best meet the current needs of the District will be invited to participate in the next step of the examination process.

The examination will include a job simulation written project and a qualifications appraisal interview. Qualified candidates will be provided with more details prior to the start of the examination process.

Salary: Listed salary amounts indicate the first and last steps of the range for the position.

Probationary Period: 130 days of paid service.

After an offer of employment, a candidate must submit evidence of freedom from tuberculosis, fingerprint clearance with the Department of Justice, and a pre-employment physical exam (district-paid).
