The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) employs nearly 2,300 team members operating nine institutions, which house approximately 5,200 inmates, statewide. The department's focus includes inmate programming and education, physical and behavioral health care, re-entry services, and community programs, and is accredited by the American Correctional Association (ACA). DUTIES:

Utilize scheduling software and other tools to create and manage nursing staff schedules; considering factors such as employee availability, requested time off, and skill levels. Collaborate with department heads and nursing managers to gather input on staffing needs and preferences.

Monitor and adjust the schedule as needed to ensure appropriate staffing levels are always maintained, considering fluctuations in patient census and acuity. Ensure all scheduling practices comply with labor laws, organizational policies, and union agreements. Maintain accurate records of employee work hours, time off requests, and any relevant scheduling information.

Address scheduling conflicts or discrepancies in a timely and professional manner; working to find equitable solutions. Generate and distribute regular reports on staffing levels, overtime hours, and other relevant metrics.

Requirements: Bachelor's degree in public or business administration, accounting or any discipline related to the work assigned.

One year of experience in planning, organizing, and implementing program administrative or business financial functions. Experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred: Proven experience in administrative roles, preferably in a healthcare setting.

Strong proficiency in a scheduling software and Microsoft Office Suite. Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities. Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.

Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Knowledge of healthcare labor laws and regulations is a plus.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities: the practices and procedures pertinent to office/clerical support operations; the methods of filing, record keeping, bookkeeping, scheduling, and mailing; computer operations and standard software and hardware applications; the purpose and activities of the employing agency; the work unit policies and guidelines pertinent to office/clerical support operations; the functions and specialized terminology associated with the work unit and agency; grammar, spelling, capitalization, and punctuation to recognize and correct errors; the procedures of manual and electronic file maintenance, record keeping, and mail distribution.
