Job Description

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Race Manager and Supervisor, performs various tasks as necessary to provide services for

the St. George Marathon.

Essential Functions (Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the

following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics. The list of tasks is illustrative only and is not a comprehensive listing

of all functions and tasks performed by positions in this class.)

Coordinate, and determine priorities of work load, monitoring levels of resources, establishing

timelines, assigning work, monitoring progress, recommending changes and suggestions, writing,

reviewing and editing reports , and approving completed projects and reports.

Contributes to the needs of the community and City by implementing and causing others to

implement the organization's values and strategies by organization, competency, and accountability

Implements systems to ensure that programs and events run smoothly, simply, effectively and

seamlessly.

Data entry, maintaining program files, contact lists, program evaluations and reports.

Responds to problems, requests, complaints, needs, etc. of program participants. Organizes,

implements , coordinates, or assists with coordination of Marathon and other event programs as

assigned.

Provides customer service by responding to information requests, conducting research, providing

solutions to problems, corresponding to complaints, and correcting errors.

Conducts needs assessments, developing methods and procedures to increase program participation

and efficiency, recommending equipment needs, planning and monitoring budgets, promoting and

scheduling and developing manuals and schedules and organizes program activities.

Performs public relations, social media monitoring and posting, sponsorship management, promoting

programs, developing marketing strategies, producing publications and public service announcements

to promote events.

Typical Physical/Mental Demands/Working Conditions

Conditions and temperatures may vary depending on the assignment. Requires the use of vision and/or hearing

to identify and evaluate emergencies. Must be able to respond quickly and appropriately to emergencies.

Requires moderately heavy physical activity exerting 25-50 pounds of force occasionally and/or 10-25 pounds

of force frequently. Mental demands of intermittent exposure to stress as a result of human behavior.

Minimum Qualifications

Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Preference given to those with education in recreation or a related field.

Experience:

Minimum of one year experience working in leagues, tournaments, and events for the City of St.

George, or a similar organization, showing adequate knowledge and skill in assigned tasks

Minimum of one year experience using Sportsman SQL, or similar registration management software

platform, showing adequate knowledge and skill in assigned tasks preferred

Customer service experience preferred

Licenses and/or Certifications:

Must possess a valid driver license. A valid Utah Driver License must be obtained within 60 days of hire

and be maintained throughout employment.

CPR, First Aid, AED certification required. Must be obtained within 60 days of hire and maintained

throughout employment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of:

General knowledge of recreation and leisure activities and programming practices preferred

Skills:

Highly motivated

Customer service oriented

Strong competency in computer applications

Interpersonal skills among City officials, community leaders, volunteers and fellow staff

Ability to:

Help recruit, train, and organize volunteers.

Interact with sponsors and community partners

Work in a broad range of assignments with limited to no training.

Plan, organize, direct, and evaluate the activities and personnel involved in recreation programs, events,

classes, or facilities.

Plan and exercise judgment in new or constantly changing problems and situations.

Show good judgment in preventing injuries and responding to recreation related injuries based on an

understanding of risk management.

Establish good community relations.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, city officials, civic organizations

and the public.
