The Pacific Coastal & Marine Geology Science Center located in Santa Cruz, CA is seeking an Administrative Operations Assistant to perform administrative work in financial, budgeting, travel, procurement & property accountability.
Salary: GS-6: $44,937 (Step 1) to $58,413 (Step 10); NOTE: First time hires to the Federal Government are typically hired at the Step 01. There is one vacancy, however, this announcement may be used to fill additional vacancies if they become available.

As an Office Automation Assistant within the Pacific Coastal & Marine Geology Science Center, some of your specific duties will include:
As a member of the administrative team, provides administrative assistance related to budget allocations and expenditures, procurement and travel. Provides advice to supervisors and employees on procedures, reports, and requirements.
Responsible for non-referencing payments through the official accounting system. Maintains, reconciles and reviews employees' bankcard statements for compliance with regulations.
Serves as Receiving Officer and Property Clerk for the Center. Maintains property-related administrative files/databases, property receipt, transfer and disposition of government property. Completes annual property inventory.
Interprets procurement regulations. Prepares procurement requisitions in the financial system, assures proper coding, accounting information and that necessary justifications are obtained.
Above duties are described at the GS-6 level; full performance GS-7 level duties will include maintaining and monitoring financial accounts, tracking obligations and expenditures, recommending adjustments to planned expenditures, and assisting with fiscal year end financial closeout activities.
25% or less - Occasional overnight travel averaging 2 nights per month is required.

Are There Any Special Requirements For This Position
Because this position requires travel for official business, the selectee will be required to apply for a charge card within 30 calendar days of appointment. Individuals who have delinquent account balances from a previous Government charge card will be required to satisfy their existing obligation before a new card can be issued.
A background investigation will be required for this position. Continued employment will be subject to the applicant's successful completion of a background security investigation and favorable adjudication. Failure to successfully meet these requirements will be grounds for termination.

If you are qualifying based on specialized experience, you must meet the requirements listed below:
GS-6: One year of specialized experience in or directly related to this position that equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position. To be creditable, the required specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-05 level in the Federal service. Example of GS-5 level work: Performs standard and nonstandard assignments involving different and unrelated processes or methods in varying sequence; work requires extensive knowledge of rules, operations, or business practices. Follows accepted practices in resolving nonrecurring problems and meeting deadlines; completed products are evaluated for effectiveness in meeting goals; extensive guidelines in the form of instructions, manuals, and regulations are applied.
A qualified typist is required; must be able to type 40 words per minute or more.
