The Los Angeles Regional Collaborative for Climate Action and Sustainability (LARC) is a network of climate practitioners and decision-makers from local cities, LA County, regional agencies, academia, non-profits, and business. Housed at the UCLA Institute of Environment and Sustainability, LARC seeks to build regional resilience to climate impacts and actively works to advance climate mitigation and adaptation by engaging in state and regional policy development, supporting municipal climate planning efforts, facilitating dialogue between key decision makers and stakeholders, distributing cutting edge research, and creating valuable tools and resources. Position Summary

The Director of Strategic Initiatives will ensure successful implementation and operation of all activities, including programs, events, conferences, workshops and office operations for the Los Angeles Regional Collaborative for Climate Action and Sustainability (LARC). A successful Director works with a high degree of autonomy to serve as the primary operational contact for multiple LARC projects demonstrating conscientiousness, resourcefulness, consideration of stakeholder needs, seasoned judgment, and integrity in all aspects of work. The Director must possess enthusiasm, creativity, and a growth mindset in advancing work across a wide-ranging, dynamic, and complex scope.

The Director is responsible for the management of LARC's administrative operations and must establish and maintain a positive working rapport with the Institute of the Environment and Sustainability business office staff. Major responsibilities include directing, organizing, and overseeing the activities of business, financial, and operational functions for LARC. This includes strategic planning, policy and direction setting, problem solving, decision making; budgetary, staffing, and resource management.

The Director will oversee multiple LARC programs and related events with support from two project coordinators and undergraduate students. The Director will be responsible for collaborating with LARC's fund manager to monitor funds and create supporting documentation (e.g. detailed transactions and/or payroll ledgers) for quarterly reporting and invoicing on multiple contracts and grants. Salary & Compensation

Qualifications

3-5 years Experience in operations, administrative, and financial management, preferably in an academic or comparable environment. (Required) 2+ years Awareness of and strong commitment to climate change and sustainability issues, particularly extreme heat. (Preferred) 4+ years Experience in managing staff and task delegation (Preferred) 4+ years Experience in developing, implementing, and evaluating new programs (Preferred) 2+ years Experience in facilitating project meetings and public workshops, and planning events (Preferred) 4+ years Experience in building relationships with partners and working to identify opportunities for continued funding (Preferred) Knowledge and experience related to climate change, extreme heat, and environmental policy. (Required) Experience and knowledge in community engagement, including community-engaged approaches to research, proposal development, project management, etc. (Required) Experience working with local and State government agencies as a specialist in the climate policy field. (Preferred) Lead and participate on policy, strategy and planning committees and working groups. (Required) Demonstrated ability to produce reports, proposals, and recommendations to guide the strategic direction of a program with internal and external constituents. (Required) Ability to collaborate with partners to coordinate the development, implementation and monitoring of new programs and processes. (Required) Make high level contacts, internally and externally, requiring discretion and diplomacy to negotiate with or persuade officials to adopt the proposed solution, particularly after the end of the grant-funded pilot. (Preferred) Experience leading and directing a wide variety of projects and demonstrated follow through with all levels of staff and individuals inside and outside the organization. (Required) Experience monitoring complex budget and developing progress reports and invoices for reimbursement. (Preferred) Knowledge of a variety of administrative operational activities such as event planning, basic fundraising processes, risk management planning, website design, accounting and payroll, and contracts and grants regulations and guidelines. (Required)

Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations

Bachelor's Degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training (Required) Master's Degree In a related field and/or equivalent in training (Preferred)
