WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

This position provides lead administrative services necessary to implement effective and efficient administrative operations for the Alaska State Troopers. Specific responsibilities include budget research and analysis, budget preparation using budget and accounting system interaction, developing analyses of revenue and expenditure patterns, preparation of fiscal projections, Overseeing the daily operations for lead administrative staff within the Alaska State Troopers. This position will work closely with the Director and Deputy Directors of the Alaska State Troopers

This position is integral to DPS' success as they will support the mission directly involved with the Director's Office and AST Headquarters.

THE WORKING CONDITIONS YOU CAN EXPECT:

This position is located at the Department of Public Safety Headquarters in Anchorage at 5700 E Tudor Road; nestled at the foot of the beautiful Chugach Mountains. The daily work environment consists of a small team of task-driven individuals. The incumbent will work closely with team members to support the mission. Some travel may be required to fulfill job duties

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR / DESIRED QUALITIES:

  • Working knowledge of administrative processes necessary to support the operations of a business, such as financial monitoring, accounts payable/receivable, personnel, and purchasing and inventory.

  • Some knowledge of the requirements and limitations of computer systems and software used for business administration activities such as tracking expenditures and revenues, procurement and inventory management, and employee payroll and position management.

  • Skill in organizing workloads, setting priorities, coordinating concurrent timelines/schedules, and interpreting and applying a variety of rules and instructions.

  • Ability to work effectively with senior management, adapt to changing priorities, work on multiple projects with overlapping or conflicting schedules, and determine the need for revision to policies or procedures and draft appropriate changes.

  • Ability to work effectively in high stress situations, analyze complex issues accurately, take prompt, appropriate action, and establish and maintain cooperative relationships with others.

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the applicant with competencies in

  • Administration and Management: Knowledge of planning, coordination, and execution of business functions, resource allocation, and production.

  • Analytical Thinking/Problem Solving: uses a logical, systematic, sequential approach to address problems or opportunities or manage a situation by drawing on one's knowledge and experience base and calling on other references and resources as necessary.

  • Financial Management: Prepares, justifies, and/or administers the budget for program areas; plans, administers, and monitors expenditures to ensure cost-effective support of programs and policies; assesses financial condition of an organization.

  • Oral and Written Communication: Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral and written presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.

Equivalent to those typically gained by:

Any combination of preparatory post-secondary education and/or experience providing administrative support to a business or organization, business administration, public administration, finance, banking, accounting, industrial relations, marketing, human resource management, logistics and supply chain management, or a similar business field.

ALASKA PUBLIC SAFETY INFORMATION NETWORK

This position requires the use of the Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN). A security clearance issued by the Department of Public Safety (DPS) is necessary to use APSIN. DPS will deny security clearance for any applicant who has been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor in this state or another jurisdiction, or who may be a fugitive from justice. Additionally, a security clearance will be withdrawn if DPS discovers that material information was falsified or omitted at the time of the initial application or security clearance.

BACKGROUND CHECK

This position requires the incumbent to submit to a fingerprint based criminal history background check. Due to the sensitive nature of this position, and required access to APSIN, an applicant with criminal convictions will not move forward in the selection process.
