The Administrative Nursing Supervisor provides consistent on-site administrative coverage for the hospital. The focus of this coverage is maintaining normal hospital operations, through problem-solving and crisis intervention.

The Administrative Nursing Supervisor evaluates staffing and allocation of human resources, and facilitates the necessary resources for patient discharge and placement within the community. This includes unit-based assistance in decision making related to staffing, conflict resolution between units and service recovery for patients and their families.

Hourly Range : $43.14 - $71.18

Essential Duties & Responsibilities, including but not limited to:

Patient Flow and Length of Stay:

Assesses patient care acuity and requirements, by making rounds throughout the hospital. Collaborates with Staffing Office to develop and implement staffing plan for shift based on patient acuity, patient census, and available staff.

Anticipates actual/potential problems that may occur on their shift and sets shift priorities accordingly. Assists Nursing units in independently seeking solutions to their problems, and in the evaluation of actions taken. Takes ongoing inventory of bed availability within the hospital and in the community during census peaks.

Assists physicians and staff in assigning admission (vs. observation) status to patients. Ensures that patient bed assignments are appropriate based on the needs of the patient, skills of staff, and infection control policies. Coordinates patient placement with unit charge nurses. Demonstrates clinical judgment in the consideration of alternative bed assignments when preferred units are full.

Operations:

Facilitates and coordinates communication flow to maintain optimal hospital operations. Promotes fiscally responsible financial planning which is linked to Center goals.

Provides supervision to staffing office to assist with implementation of established staffing plans. Assists staff to utilize staffing resources to meet patient care requirements and other professional responsibilities. Collaborates with staffing office ANM to adjust staffing levels according to patient acuity, census, and special needs. Anticipates the needs of patient care, and engages on-call teams as necessary.

Administrative Liaison:

Provides proactive administrative and staff support in a patient centered environment Functions as an administrative liaison to internal and external customers Advocates for patients, families and staff Provides input to Nursing Unit plans for quality improvement.

Consultation:

Functions as a resource to staff for solving complex clinical problems. Maintains up to date knowledge regarding legal aspects of nursing policies and procedures and regulations governing the hospital, and shares knowledge openly.

Assists with resolving conflicts between individual needs and the requirements of the organization. Supports and promotes lifelong learning using the organization's established empowerment process. Acts as a mentor and consultant to staff in incorporating the organization's mission, vision and values to enhance patient satisfaction by anticipating and exceeding patient's needs.

Patient Care and Advocacy:

Responds to patient and family concerns. Assists Nursing staff to intervene on the patient's behalf.

Functions as a link in the chain of command, escalating concerns as necessary to provide quality patient care. Investigates incidents with staff, providing for immediate follow up and communication to appropriate administration. Responds to emergency situations (Rapid Response, Code Blue) and assists as necessary. Implements the disaster plan as necessary.

Patient Safety :

Supports a system that encourages the identification and analysis of errors and near misses in the context of a safety culture. As assigned, conducts departmental safety inspections to assure compliance with hospital safety standards as evidenced by documented inspection reports. Is aware of and compliant with all hospital and regulatory agency safety goals and objectives.

Other Requirements:

Must have a Bachelor's degree in Nursing with leadership and/or charge nurse experience.
