ATTENTION ALL APPLICANTS: Initial duty station is the selectee's home address (work-from-home position) until the opening of the Area Census Office (ACO) in BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA. At that time the employee will be required to report to the ACO as their regular place of work.


Relocation will not be paid.

The person selected for this position will:

  • Responsible for supervising and managing the personnel, payroll, supply requisitioning, and other administrative activities.

  • Supervises the daily processing of payroll, personnel, and other administrative documents.

  • Form and maintain effective relationships with peers, subordinates, management, and other regional census center employees.

  • Identifies and resolves problems and clearly communicates the action associated with the encountered problems.

  • Prepares, reviews, and analyses staffing and payroll reports and assures the administrative operations are conducted within prescribed time schedules.

  • Oversees payroll and personnel activities, helps maintain the flow and quality of work to meet deadlines.

  • Request the approval of supply and material equipment as needed to ensure continuity of office operations.

  • Assists in setting up and closing the office, assuring minimal waste of excess supplies and equipment.

Travel Required
50% or less - Position requires 25% local travel and 25% overnight travel

Applicants are responsible for ensuring that the application submitted clearly indicates that they meet the qualifications listed below. To be eligible for this position, you must have the specialized experience, education, or a combination as indicated below.

EXPERIENCE: Applicant must have one year specialized experience for this position that includes training and delegating work to subordinates. Experience overseeing and providing guidance directly to staff. Experience working in a team environment to negotiate with others in order to secure support from multiple businesses and organizations. Experience communicating verbally and in writing with diverse populations. Experience setting priorities; and developing, monitoring, and/or analyzing detailed program/project requirements and implementation schedules. Experience reviewing staffing and payroll reports. Experience overseeing personnel and payroll programs and keep inventory of supplies and equipment. Experience maintaining records and creating an organized system to maintain the flow and quality of work to meet deadlines.


EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in any area with Superior Academic Achievement OR one full year of graduate education directly related to the position.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
