Description of Job
This position exists to preside over and govern the conduct of hearings in the Workers Comp Unit, resolve evidence issues, rule on motions, and write formal decisions pursuant to statutes, rules of evidence and procedure in the Denver and outlying areas.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Licensure/Certification/Experience:
Graduation from an accredited law school AND at least five (5) years of experience practicing law (legal experience acquired after admission to the bar), two (2) of which must have included experience appropriate to the work assignment, and qualified candidates shall have been licensed to practice law in the State of Colorado for at least five (5) years
No Substitutions
The exceptional candidate will possess the proven ability or accomplishment in the following preferred qualifications:
Prior experience adjudicating as an administrative law judge, hearing officer, magistrate or municipal/county judge
Prior experience in employment law and administrative law
Prior experience as a mediator
Previous State Service related to the work assigned to the position
Conditions of Employment:
A pre-employment criminal background check will be conducted as part of the selection process.
Travel within the state for hearings and mediations.
Appeal Rights:
An applicant who has been removed from an employment list or removed from consideration during the selection process may request a review by the State Personnel Director.
As an applicant directly affected by the results of the selection or comparative analysis process, you may file a written appeal with the State Personnel Director.
Review of the completed, signed and submitted appeal will be timely on the basis of written material submitted by you, using the official appeal form signed by you or your representative. This form must be completed and delivered to the State Personnel Board by email at dpa_state.personnelboard@state.co.us within ten (10) calendar days from your receipt of notice or acknowledgement of the Department's action.
