This is a Juvenile Justice/Court Services position located in Mecklenburg County, N.C, District 26.

This position provides administrative support to a district and/or district management team. Duties include general clerical, receptionist and project based work.

Project a professional image through in-person and phone interaction. Primary responsibilities include but not limited to answering the telephones and transferring to appropriate staff members; meet and greet clients and visitors; create and modify documents using Microsoft Office; Perform general clerical duties to include but not limited to photocopying, faxing, mailing, filing and scanning; maintain hard copy and electronic filing system; sign for and distribute packages; conduct data research as directed by the Chief Court Counselor; coordinate and maintain records for staff office space, phones, parking and office keys etc.; set up and coordinate meetings and agendas; collect and maintain office inventory; support staff in assigned project based work; maintain office supply inventory. Other duties as assigned.

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.

 If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity.  Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.

About the NC Dept. of Public Safety (DPS):

The mission of DPS is to safeguard and preserve the lives and property of the people of North Carolina through prevention, protection, and preparation with integrity and honor.  Included in this department are Alcohol Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice Information Network, Emergency Management, Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, NC National Guard, NC Office of Recovery and Resiliency, Samarcand Training Academy, State Capitol Police, and State Highway Patrol.

 Also included are these Boards and Commissions: ABC Commission, Governor's Crime Commission, Private Protective Services Commission, and Boxing & Combat Sports Commission.  DPS is comprised of approximately 6,000 permanent positions and nearly 13,000 NC National Guard temporary positions.

To qualify for this position, applicants must document on the application that they possess ALL of the following:

  • Knowledge of office practices and procedures, 

  • Familiarity with computer networking and software (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Management Preferences:

  • Applicant with basic knowledge of the Division of Adult Correction and Juvenile Justice office practices and procedures.

  • Applicant with an associate's degree or higher with an emphasis on office technology/business management.

  • Applicant who is currently a notary or willing to become a notary within 90 days of employment.

Minimum Education and Experience:

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and one year of administrative experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
