This position is located in the Renewal, Titles and Plate Unit of the Vehicle Services Section. This unit and positions provide service to customers in the registering and titling their vehicles in North Carolina. This position must accurately examine, inspect property tax and renewal registration notices and other registration applications along with the corresponding payment to ensure appropriate information and fees are collected. The employee will calculate fees some with multiple vehicles and if any incorrect information or fee is submitted, the employee must create correspondence to the customer to provide instructions and calculations needed to continue and expedite the processing of their request. This employee will update STARS for the purpose of creating, updating, and/or modifying registration records if requested changes from the customer. This position is responsible for operating and performing data entry via the Remittance Processor daily.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Applicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work experience that demonstrates the following:

  • Experience in computer skills using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook .

  • Experience in reviewing detailed documents and records for accuracy and authenticity.

  • Experience explaining processes and procedures in accordance with General Statues or office policies and procedures.

  • Experience in customer service, resolving customers issues, and communicating effectively both in oral and written form.

  • Experience in using a 10-key calculator to compare and balance transactions .

Additions Expectations:

May lift baskets or trays of mail weighing up to 25 pounds and sit / use repetitive hand motions for long periods. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and one year of administrative experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

This position serves as the Administrative Assistant to the Director of Driver Services and serves as the liaison for the Director with other units within the Division, the Commissioner's office, NCDOT and NCDIT. This position is responsible for preparing agendas, meeting notes, coordinating meetings, scheduling travel arrangements and attends meetings supporting or in the absence of the Director. This position will also assist with proofing speeches and maintaining the Director's calendar as necessary. The person in this position will also have direct contact with the public via telephone, Contact Us, email, mail and in person concerning DMV and Driver Services. This position they must determine the nature of the inquiry and take the appropriate action. This will be achieved by assigning the inquiry to the appropriate person for a response or by composing the appropriate response to provide either by phone or in writing for the Director or the Commissioner's office. The person in this position will perform a variety of administrative actions which includes but is not limited to initiating, generating, and completing HR/Personnel actions beginning with the request to post through receiving the offer to hire, assist with preparing expansion budgets, legislative reviews, as well as research/obtain information for high-level officials. This position is also responsible for interpreting, policies and procedures as well as expediting the flow of information between the Director's office, Driver Services, the Commissioner's office, stakeholders, and other state agencies. This position schedules meetings for the Director, and contacts management to request information on behalf of the Director and customers. This position is responsible for creating reports, spreadsheets, presentations, other material based on extensive research and entering/retrieving data to and from various databases. This position is also responsible for creating forms, documents, correspondences, reports, and logs to support Driver Services. This position will create a filing system and maintain files in the Driver Services Director's Office, some of which contains confidential information including but not limited to DMV generated memos, meeting notes and agendas, investigation reports, legislative and Bill information, memos and letters from the Commissioner, DOT Secretary, the Governor, etc. In addition, this position will also assist with confidential personnel actions, order office supplies, maintain all office equipment, enter all travel reimbursements, and assist with any daily budgetary needs. This position, under the guidance of the Director, has limited supervision and is responsible for ensuring all the aforementioned task are completed, program objectives and goals are met.
