We are seeking an experienced Administrative Assistantfor an available contractposition in New York City.
Available Position:Administrative Assistant
Client Facility:The Office of the Attorney General,28 Liberty Street, RFB, New York, NY 10005
Work Shift:Monday to Friday, 7.5 hours per day.
Assignment Duration: 10/04/2018 to 01/04/2019
Scope of Work:
Check filings for deficiencies, email submitting attorneys regarding deficiencies, when deficiencies are cured enter data in excel spreadsheet and Oracle database, upload digital files to shared drive, print necessary paperwork, endorse checks, compile filing and distribute to attorneys for review Key Skills & Abilities: detail-oriented, neat handwriting, organized, able to catch errors, proofread work, able to manage a large volume of digital and paper files, able to manage high volumes of work while keeping track of deadlines, must be able to work quickly and accurately, able to follow 20 page procedure guide, double checks work, ask questions when clarification is needed, must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Adobe PDF, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook



Qualifications:

Education: Bachelors Degree
Skills required:
Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
Proficiency with various software packages including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Access and Power Point.
Ability to handle a high volume of work in a fast-paced office environment.
Experience prioritizing tasks; ability to work independently, under pressure to meet deadlines.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Additional skills preferred:
Experience working in data systems
Experience with tracking systems

Fluency in a second language is a plus. Applicants must reside in (or intend to soon become a resident of) New York State and be admitted to practice law in New York State. In addition, the Public Officers Law requires that attorneys in the Office be citizens of the United States. A two (2) year commitment upon being hired is a condition of employment. Applicants must possess excellent research, writing, and analytical skills, and have the ability to develop and complete litigation and policy initiatives and filings in a timely manner. Ideal candidates will have litigated affirmative and/or defensive cases and have experience synthesizing information and building cases concerning public policy. In addition, the applicant must demonstrate a commitment to public service and the ability to work well with members of the public, scientific and technical staff, expert and fact witnesses, administrative agencies, and other members of a litigation team. Duties Description The New York State Office of the Attorney General seeks a dedicated attorney with significant litigation experience to serve in the Civil Rights Bureau in the New York City office. The Bureau enforces federal, state, and local laws that protect New Yorkers from discrimination on the basis of race, color, national origin, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, religion, age, marital status, sexual orientation, military status, source of income, or disability. The Bureau investigates and civilly prosecutes alleged patterns of unlawful discrimination in a variety of arenas, including employment, housing, education, social services, voting rights, lending, and places of public accommodation. Some of the more recent matters handled by the Bureau targeted the following areas: access to education; equal employment opportunities and sexual harassment in the workplace; fair housing; fair lending and access to credit; immigrant rights; access by individuals with disabilities; the rights of the LGBT community; language access; religious rights; reproductive rights; and voting rights. The Bureau's docket reflects its commitment to combating discrimination and its effects, ensuring equality of opportunity, and promoting inclusion across New York State. In addition to litigation, the Bureau engages in significant community outreach and public education and other advocacy efforts.
