Reports to: Summer School Principal

FLSA Status: Non - Exempt Stipend: $15/hr

Dept./Campus: Intervention Services Term: June and July Sessions

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

To ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the summer school program.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Receive all incoming calls, take reliable messages, provide accurate information, and route to appropriate staff.

  • Type all written correspondence and properly route.

  • Oversee and maintain proper files of student discipline reports.

  • Assist teachers, students and parents as needed.

  • Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school policies and regulations concerning primary job functions.

  • Oversee operation of copy machines and notify Plant Services of any problems of such machines.

  • Demonstrates regular and prompt attendance.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

GENERAL QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES

Education/Certification/Experience:

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D
  • At least three years as campus administrative assistant.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate effectively; manage multiple priorities and projects; use computer and application software; organize.

Mental/Physical/Environmental Demands

  • Needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.

  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.

  • Frequently communicates with other employees or public. Must be able to exchange accurate information.

  • Ability to understand, remember, and communicate routine, factual information.

  • Ability to organize and prioritize own work schedule on short-term basis.

  • Ability to make decisions which have moderate impact on immediate work unit.

  • Ability to compose letters, outlines, memoranda, and basic reports and/or to orally communicate technical information.

  • Ability to communicate with individuals utilizing a telephone, computer or other electronic device.

  • Use standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals.

  • Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting.

  • Repetitive hand motions including frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching.

  • Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds).

  • Work with frequent interruptions.

  • Maintain emotional control under stress.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: * Counsel individual students and small groups with presenting needs and concerns. * Communicate with identified high school graduates about their post-secondary plan and assist with problem-solving any issues that arise. * Respond to graduates who request assistance with post-secondary planning. * Maintain a communication system that effectively collects and disseminates information to other professionals as appropriate. * Develop and maintain positive working relationships with other school professionals and representatives of community resources. * Compile, maintain, and file all required physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents. * Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and board policy in guidance and counseling area. * Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations. * Maintain a positive and effective relationship with supervisors. * Communicate effectively with colleagues, students, and parents. * Demonstrate regular and prompt attendance to ensure a consistent focus on student learning. * Perform other duties as assigned. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: * None GENERAL QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES Education/Certification/Experience: * Masters degree in guidance and counseling. * Valid Texas School Counselor Certificate. * Minimum two years teaching experience. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: * Knowledge of counseling procedures, student appraisal, and career development. * Skill in organization and communication. Mental/Physical/Environmental Demands: * Often operates a computer and other office productivity machinery (i.e., a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer). * Needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc. * Frequently communicates with other employees or public.
