About Indiana Department of Environmental Management:
Our mission is to implement federal and state regulations to protect human health and the environment while allowing the environmentally sound operations of industrial, agricultural, commercial, and governmental activities vital to a prosperous economy. We issue air, water, and solid and hazardous waste permits that restrict discharges to environmentally safe levels. Staff members inspect and monitor regulated entities; provide compliance and technical assistance; monitor and assess air, land, and water quality; use enforcement actions as necessary to ensure compliance; and respond to incidents involving spills to soil or waters of the state.
Role Overview:
This position will need: Knowledge of State of Indiana Professional Licensing data base, PeopleSoft and Microsoft Office software applications. Working knowledge of applicable federal and state air pollution control laws, regulations and policiesas they relate to asbestos compliance. Specialized knowledge of the organization, functions and policies and procedures of the Indiana Department of Insurance and other State Insurance Departments as they relate to the contractor asbestos licensing program. Thorough knowledge of the licensing asbestos program. Ability to stay informed of new development and advancing principles and methodologies in the asbestos fields.
Salary Statement:
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $37,648.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.
A Day in the Life:
The essential functions of this role are as follows:
Provides advanced administrative support to an agency, department, or facility.
Reviews the organizational structure and functions of assigned program area to recommend changes to promote effectiveness.
Administers staff functions in support of program area.
Aids program administrator in applying agency or department policies and procedures.
Represents program administrator in meetings with representative of other agencies, and interested public to explain and interpret program goals, policies, and procedures.
Prepares, evaluates, and maintains administrative reports, policies, and procedures for different program areas

Related certifications and coursework may be considered for education or experience.
You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment:
Specialized knowledge of theories, principles, and practices of administrative management
Working knowledge of state governmental administrative structure
Working knowledge of assigned program area
Organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively and multitask
Ability to coordinate and motivate professional and support personnel
Ability to communicate, both orally and verbally, with diverse public
Attention to detail and proofreading skills
Ability to establish cooperative work relationships
Ability to analyze, update and write procedures and policies
Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:
This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
