The Department of Community Corrections and Rehabilitation (DOCCR) is seeking an Administrative Assistant to carry out comprehensive administrative tasks and provide supervision and work direction to a team of administrative professionals. This position is located within the Adult Pre-Adjudication Services Division (APAS) of DOCCR.

In this position, the person selected will need to demonstrate a high level of proficiency in independent decision-making, administrative functions, and building trust with administrative support staff and division management.

Location and hours:

This position is hybrid and will be performed both on-site at the Hennepin County Government Center at 300 South 6th Street, Minneapolis, MN 55487 and at the Public Safety Facility at 401 4th Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN 55415 and remote as job duties require. This position is expected to provide on-site backup coverage at the front desk at various division locations in downtown Minneapolis, Brooklyn Center, and Minnetonka. Access to reliable transportation to provide front desk coverage, as needed. Work hours are typically Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.

  • 4:30 p.m. While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin.

About this position type:

This is a full-time, benefit earning position. You must be a current regular or probationary employee of Hennepin County's Department of Community Corrections and Rehabilitation (DOCCR) to apply for this position. Limited duration employees are not eligible.

In this position, you will:

  • Supervise approximately 4 direct reports, including managing on-site and remote workloads, supporting individual professional development goals, and writing performance evaluations.

  • Coordinate administrative work and front desk schedules for two locations that support the business operations of units in the Adult Pre-Adjudication Services Division.

  • Serve as the primary trainer and quality assurance manager for two support units within the division: Felony Investigations and the Pretrial Unit.

  • Assist with onboarding of all staff in the division to include: phone coordination, updating group email lists, computer access and SharePoint security requests.

Need to have:

  • One of the following:

  • Four or more years of experience in general administrative work relating to the support of departmental/organizational operations or in a specialty area appropriate to the position.

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in public administration, business administration, or other field appropriate to the position.

Nice to have:

  • Experience:

  • Supervising people, groups, or bodies of work.

  • Managing or overseeing work across multiple locations in a remote environment.

  • Providing technical assistance to meet position and organizational needs.

  • Using CSTS (Court Services Tracking System), DOCCR's client information system.

  • Training in SharePoint and maintaining SharePoint pages.

  • Creating and building a learning environment that promotes a positive employee experience and emphasizes continuous improvement.

  • Training individuals within an organization.

Advanced knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite.Ability to:

  • Learn, understand, apply, and stay current with technology and electronic case management systems.

  • Communicate across differences and respond in an equitable, inclusive, and empathetic manner to front desk traffic, clients, and colleagues, demonstrating awareness of one's own personal values, stereotypes, and biases.

  • Learn, understand, interpret, and adhere to labor relations contracts.

  • Adapt to and support organizational change.

  • Apply critical thinking skills and make independent decisions.
