Job Description:

The mission of the Hoosier Youth ChalleNGe Academy (HYCA) is to intervene in and reclaim the lives of at-risk youth to produce program graduates with the values, skills, education and self-discipline necessary to succeed as adults. This program provides military based training, including supervised work experience in community service and conservation programs, to civilian youth who cease to attend secondary school before graduating so as to improve their life skills and employment potential.

Candidate serves as an assistant performing administrative support tasks to the Director and/or various other assigned staff members of the Hoosier ChalleNGe Academy (HYCA).

Day in the life:

  • Verbally communicates the Director's desires, thoughts and messages as directed to the HYCA staff, the Military Department of Indiana staff, local officials, private organizations, civic groups, and Federal and State agencies;

  • Informs the Director of the current status of work in process throughout Academy;

  • Arranges meetings and conferences by scheduling the room or site, preparing the agenda and briefing presentation, coordinating meals if necessary, and acquiring any needed equipment;

  • Assists in coordinating visits, tours and open house activities of the Academy for local officials, private organizations, civic groups, and Federal and State representatives, elected officials, families and other stake-holders;

  • Prepares Director's correspondence and complex reports from dictation or written notes; Composes correspondence for the Director and with prior approval may sign for Director in his/her absence; Reviews correspondence for spelling, grammar, proper military or civilian format, conformance to policy and procedural instructions, and inclusion of necessary attachments prior to Director's signature;

  • Receives requests for routine, specialized, classified and/or confidential information/action from internal/external sources and either provides the information or assigns the action to the appropriate staff member for response;

What we are looking for:

Three (3) years work experience performing administrative support; bookkeeping; office management; program support; word processing; or accredited college training in a related field.

High school diploma or GED

Must maintain a valid Indiana Driver's License

About the job: Crew member performs a variety of landscape activities, such as planting, weeding, digging, spreading topsoil and other materials, general lawn maintenance, and seasonal lawn preparation.
