The Specialty Materials segment manufactures products that provide more than 150 material formulations for glass, glass ceramics and fluoride crystals to meet demand for unique customer needs. Consequently, this segment operates in a wide variety of commercial and industrial markets that include display optics and components, semiconductor optics components, aerospace and defense, astronomy, ophthalmic products, telecommunications components and cover glass that is optimized for portable display devices.

Scope of Position:

  • Provide administrative support to the Advanced Optics Leadership Team (AOLT) and their organizations in the business in an efficient, proactive, and quality manner.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Organize AOLT and assigned others time, including maintaining the calendar, scheduling all appointments and meetings with staff, Corning constituents and external constituents.

  • Typing, answering calls, filing, sorting mail, and handling email

  • Coordinate complex travel arrangements including preparing itineraries, agenda, visas, and associated files.

  • Establish and maintain director's hard copy and electronic files.

  • Ensure director meets on timelines and deadlines.

  • Prepare/create PowerPoint presentations, graphs, and reports.

  • Update organizational charts as needed.

  • Assist/create, prepare and restricted/confidential documents.

  • Keep contact lists and locations updated.

  • Schedule meetings and travel arrangements, as needed, for customers, visitors, and other staff members. Includes delivering key messages, objectives, logistics, travel, accommodations, tours, meals, entertainment, etc.

  • Coordinate facility visits as needed.

  • Coordinate department events and activities.

  • Maintain and order office supplies within budget restrictions.

  • Assist in maintaining transfer pricing record.

  • Coordinate with division analyst for Capital projects in Peoplesoft and for the asset count.

  • Submit requests for dept workflow/ project workflow in Peoplesoft when required.

  • Periodical maintenance of the opex projects when required (opening/closing activities).

  • Work closely with the opex lead for requesting new or closing existing S&A and D&E departments in Peoplesoft.

  • Maintenance of AO SharePoint for appropriation requests / financial reporting when changes / updates need to be implemented.

  • Route all Appropriation Requests that require Corp signatures either by DocuSign or working with finance function AR coordinator.

Education and Experience:

  • We require a minimum of an AAS degree in a business related area or equivalent work experience

  • We are seeking 2-5 years of experience as an administrative assistant

  • Successful record of performance in previous work experience

  • Solid understanding of computer software and smart phone technology

  • Prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously, work efficiently and effectively in a dynamic unstructured environment

  • Experience with SharePoint


  • Knowledge of Corning internal systems and AmEx travel

  • Ability to create effective administrative processes

  • Accuracy of information

  • Technical support for conference calls and/or arranging appropriate media support as needed

  • Collaborate with IT executive support and run issues to completion

Hours of work:

  • Monday through Friday - overtime as needed
