The Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior is seeking to hire a full-time Administrative Assistant to join their Child Division. Major duties include: Serve as a medical scribe. Medical record documentation will include history of present illness, past medical history, preview of systems, physical exam findings, assessment and plan, procedure notes, lab and radiology results, patient instructions, level of service, and appropriate charge capture Schedule patient appointments and enter patient orders and referrals Provide administrative assistance to physicians as needed Qualifications Prior scribe experience in an outpatient clinic or inpatient setting, strongly preferred Prior experience with electronic medical records and CareConnect, strongly preferred Detailed knowledge of medical terminology and the ability to distinguish different exams and medical diagnoses Ability to handle and maintain confidential material Demonstrated knowledge in using Microsoft Office Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills Ability to perform and multi-task under the pressure of frequent interruptions and distractions Skill in working independently and following through on assignments with minimal supervision UCLA is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer. Qualifications Required: * Ability to travel to Westwood/LAX locations for mandatory 2 or 4-week training upon hire. * Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with physicians and staff in a high volume setting. * Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize assignments. * Skill in efficiently and accurately facilitating the appointment making process, including transportation arrangements and maintain sub-specialty physician schedules. * Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to coordinate multiple appointments with staff from many clinical services at the UCLA Medical Center. * Skill in using a PC with associated programs including Word, Excel, and Email. * Skill in demonstrating work experience with a database computer program. * Knowledge of major medical insurance plans and types of coverage provided. * Knowledge of medical terminology. Preferred: * Working knowledge of CareConnect system and SYSM Communications systems to complete on-line transactions, including appointment scheduling, procedure scheduling, the encounter registration system, hospital lab results and medical reports.
