The DNR's Air Quality Bureau provides a critical service for Iowa citizens and environmental quality. Partnering with communities, business and industry, organizations and private citizens, the Bureau provides the knowledge and tools necessary to create workable solutions to ensure that Iowa's excellent air quality is maintained throughout the state.

This Administrative Assistant 1 employment opportunity is within the Bureau's Program Development & Support Section. The primary role of the position will be to provide user support for the online Asbestos Notification System and Iowa EASY Air application system. For the on-line Asbestos Notification System, specific duties will include the completeness review of asbestos notification submittals from regulated parties for pending building renovations and demolitions, entry of paper notification information into the on-line notification system, addressing notification system errors reported by users and assisting users of the on-line notification system, and coordination of notification information with field inspectors. For the Iowa Environmental Application System for Air (EASY Air), the position will provide user assistance and training to staff, regulated industry, and their consultants on the use of Iowa EASY Air, including assisting with the development of Iowa EASY Air training materials, user manuals, and guidance and FAQ documents.

Additional duties will include generating and sending invoices for billable hours permitting projects, daily tracking of check and credit card payments received for construction permitting projects, asbestos notifications and emissions fee payments in applicable databases, managing the inventory and purchasing of computers and software for bureau staff, coordination of service, maintenance, and repairs of the bureau's vehicles through approved vendors, and overseeing the bureau's annual Capital Asset Inventory completion.

Essential Functions

The ability to communicate regulatory program and technical information clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing; entering environmental information into on-line applications and network databases and spreadsheets using PC based computer systems and software; instructing clients and staff in the use of applicable on-line applications, electronic records storage systems, network databases and spreadsheets.  Establishing and maintaining data entry and processing procedures, requirements, and policies.  Reading and comprehending technical information, rules, policies, procedures, and guidance, and disseminating that information to clients and customers.

The starting salary for new state (Executive Branch) employees is expected to be at the base of the pay range. Additional salary increases may occur after the first six months, and then annually (if applicable).   • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in any field.

  • Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes experience equal to 12 months of full-time work as a Secretary 2, Clerk Specialist, Public Service Supervisor, Accounting Technician (any level), Purchasing Assistant, or Human Resources Technical Assistant
