The Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, Division of Alaska Air National Guard Facilities is recruiting for an Administrative Assistant 1 position

The position is available to Alaska residents only

What you will be doing:

Would you like to manage Real Property activities and records for Alaska Air National Guard (ANG) facilities under the Master Cooperative Agreement (MCA Appendix 1021K) located at JBER?  In addition, you could be responsible for ensuring all records and assignments are accurate while adhering to governing directives.  The functional area is Facility Management and you would be highly counted on to be the liaison to building managers, owners, and contractors to maintain or coordinate general maintenance and facility coding.

This position is located on JBER.   Employees have access to many facilities on base for activities, physical fitness, and eateries (all with ample parking).   The incumbent will work directly with the Engineering Associate, Base Civil Engineer (BCE) and Deputy BCE.   Work will be both independent and as a team.

We are looking for a detail-oriented individual who enjoys a variety of challenging duties and a desire to grow individually and professionally.

To be successful in the position a candidate will need the following core competencies:

  • Ability to apply principles and techniques to work described, calculate dimensions and areas, and analyze maps showing length and directions of boundary lines.

  • Ability to develop, monitor, update, and submit revolving inventory of all real property including real estate, fixed assets and installed property.

  • Knowledge of the physical, engineering, and operational characteristics of facilities

  • Ability to write, search for, select and compile and/or summarize data and information.

  • Skills and abilities to use computer applications- Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, IRIS HRM, NextGen

  • Ability to serve as liaison to building managers, owners, and contractors to maintain or coordinate general maintenance and coding of Real Property

The successful applicants must pass a federal background check to qualify for military base access, which is required with this position's work location on base. The background check will include fingerprinting. All job offers are conditional pending successful completion of the federal background check and issuance of a Defense Biometrics Identification System (DBIDS) card allowing base access.

Also, you must be able to maintain the clearance throughout your employment. Using a private vehicle will require a valid Alaska Driver's License, proof of vehicle insurance, and a valid State of Alaska vehicle registration.

State employees are guests on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson; clearance and access are not within the State's control.                                                                                               Six months of advanced clerical experience. This experience includes work such as Office Assistant 2, Accounting Clerk, and similar classes with the State of Alaska or the equivalent with another employer.

OR

Six months of any combination of post-secondary education, vocational education, and/or advanced-level clerical experience. (Three semester or four quarter hours of post-secondary education are equal to one month of experience; 150 hours of vocational education are equal to one month of experience.)

Special Note:

Examples of advanced clerical experience include:

  • Reviewing complex or questionable applications or documents and searching files and regulations to determine accuracy of information to clarify applicant status; using judgment in applying criteria, rules, regulations, and policies; providing information to organizational unit staff on administrative processes and procedures; tracking expenditures; and completing necessary administrative paperwork according to regulations.

  • Composing letters and memoranda; completing and reviewing forms for completeness and accuracy using readily available information from multiple sources and established guidelines and procedures. Examples of such tasks include time sheets, appointment paperwork, or required drug testing notifications for employees in positions requiring possession of a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL).At the time of interview, please provide 2 evaluations OR 2 professional reference letters.
