Essential Duties:
Coordinate the school system's programs for students with disabilities (SWD) to assure that the implementation of the programs is in accordance and compliance with local, state, and federal policies, rules and regulations.
Develop and monitor a seamless, systematic approach to curriculum, assessment, and instruction of best practices, research based, for sustained student achievement.
Promote and ensure inclusive participation for SWD in the Georgia Performance Standards and the transition toleast restrictive environments (LRE) in standards-based classrooms.
Collaborate effectively with community resources to provide necessary early intervention services to young children (ages 3-5) with disabilities including IEP implementation by the third birthday, services in natural environments with typically developing peers and positive outcomes.
Assist in reviewing data to evaluate the effectiveness of secondary instructional programs for SWD for the purpose of modifying instructional goals and methods to enhance student achievement, and effectively communicate to students, schools, parents, and community the progress toward the goals.
Assist in reviewing data to evaluate the effectiveness of the Free and Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) for SWD including eligibility timelines, disciplinary practices, disproportionate representation, and parental involvement to improve results for SWD.
Plan, develop, secure, and implement meaningful and valuable professional development opportunities necessary to build capacity in special education staff to implement the curriculum and to improve instruction.
Facilitate and support the implementation of instructional strategies that support each secondary school's student achievement goals to ensure that all schools make Annual Yearly Progress (AYP) and furthermore, increasing the percentage of students with disabilities exceeding state standards in reading and mathematics.
Participate in IEP and related meetings to promote collaboration and communication.
Maintain records and make reports as directed.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
Minimum of a Master's degree, required; Georgia Leadership Certification, preferred.
Minimum of five years of experience working in the exceptional student educational arena.
Trained on the appropriate teacher performance evaluation instruments.
Ability to work well with teachers, school administrative teams, and district office leadership.
Must possess a proven track record of building and maintaining strong professional relationships.
Exceptional integrity, commitment to confidentiality, excellent character, and strong professional reputation.
Ability to abide by the Georgia Professional Standards Code of Ethics for Educators.
Must be regularly, predictably, and reliably at work.
Ability to be present at the physical worksite.
Must perform tasks involving prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting.
Must perform routine physical activities such as bending and lifting/pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds.
Vision, hearing, written, and verbal communications are essential factors in performing required tasks.
