JOB DESCRIPTION

The instructor position focuses on the instructional activities required to implement the curriculum. Adjunct/part-time faculty will be assigned according to department needs.

JOB FUNCTIONS

A. Teaching

  • Implements teaching activities within assigned courses under the leadership of senior faculty.

  • Assists in the planning and evaluation of specific courses within the curriculum.

  • Maintains current knowledge and skills in the area(s) of preparation.

  • Carries out instructional designs developed in collaboration with senior faculty.

  • Develops skills of academic advisement for pre-nursing and nursing major students based on College/Department policy and under the direction of an assigned faculty mentor.

  • Maintains accessibility to students, within College/Department policy.

  • Fosters the development of students as emerging professionals.

  • Ensures personal compliance with clinical agency requirements; re: licensure, health screening, professional liability insurance, CPR, criminal background checks, etc., and role models these behaviors for students.

  • Ensures compliance with regulations set by the SC Board of Nursing, SC DHEC, SLED, OSHA, HIPAA, FERPA, etc.

B. Department/College Activities and Community Service

  • Collaborates with clinical partners and other community groups in promoting the Nursing program and the College.

  • Maintains effective interdepartmental relationships within the College.

  • Supports the goals and mission of the College.

  • Represents the College and the Department as necessary.

  • Participates as a resource person as needed.

C. Adjunct Instructor

  • Master's degree in nursing required. A master's degree or higher with experience in simulation/advising and/or teaching in higher education is preferred. Those with relevant work history are strongly encouraged to apply.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as detail-oriented management of multiple projects.

  • Be an outgoing, friendly, curious learner who thrives on working with students to help them achieve success. An understanding that each student is unique, and a strong commitment to Newberry College's inclusivity, equity, and belonging ideals. Innovative and adaptable to the different needs of individual students.

  • Ability to work with technology, particularly Microsoft 365. Familiarity with online resources to support student development. Comfort using student data to inform decision-making and make recommendations.

  • Ability to work with a team of highly motivated faculty and staff to ensure student success.

D. The Simulation Lab Coordinator

  • Provides instruction, including demonstration, guided practice, and skill evaluation for nursing students.

  • Develops and implements high-quality learning and assessment simulations.

  • Evaluates the effectiveness of simulations as educational and assessment tools.

  • Facilitates simulation scenarios and student participation with debriefing sessions.

  • Trains simulation users in simulation activities, operation of patient simulators, audio-visual equipment, and their maintenance.

  • Maintains and updates simulation and lab equipment and supplies.

  • Assists in the development of new curricula that are supported by simulation activities.

  • Coordinates maintenance of patient simulators, part-task trainers, and virtual equipment.

  • Assists with the student remediation process with respect to skills.

  • Coordination of clinical affiliations and agreements.

  • Maintains communication between clinical agencies and the College.

  • Ensures that clinical experiences meet the requirements of SC BON.

  • Maintenance of Trajecsys and clinical paperwork.

  • Coordination of clinical requirements in Viewpoint.

EDUCATIONAL OR OTHER HIRING REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION

Master's degree or bachelor's of science in nursing required. South Carolina license as a registered nurse (RN) or advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) is required. Minimum of three years' clinical practice as a professional registered nurse. Evidence of effective clinical practice that includes experience with formal and informal teaching of patient groups, of students, and/or of licensed nurses. Familiarity with the Neuman Systems Model preferred.
