Centralia College is on a 30-acre campus of modern buildings set among walking paths, lawns, and native plantings just a few blocks from the heart of Centralia, Washington. The college has served students in the Lewis County region since 1925 and is the oldest continuously operating community college in Washington State. The city of Centralia is a historic railroad and river shipping hub with a vibrant downtown and railway station.

In addition to the main campus in Centralia, Centralia College East in Morton is a smaller site that serves the needs of students in east Lewis County. Job Description

Centralia College is creating a pool of qualified applicants to teach college-level Spanish courses online to freshmen and sophomores on a part-time basis. While language courses are typically taught in full, quarter-length sections, instructors may teach language intensive courses on compressed schedules. The college¿s need for part-time instructors varies from quarter to quarter.

Online courses are typically taught asynchronously using the Canvas learning management system. Additional in-person teaching opportunities may arise at the college¿s main campus in Centralia; its satellite campus in Morton; WA; the Chehalis Tribal Center in Oakville, WA; or within correctional and juvenile detention facilities in the area.

Applicants must reside in Washington State.

Duties and Responsibilities

Spanish instructors are responsible for teaching a variety of courses, including first-year sections of SPAN& 121: Spanish I, SPAN& 122: Spanish II, and SPAN& 123: Spanish III. Instructors may teach full-quarter length or compressed courses.

Qualifications

  • Master's or higher degree in Spanish language or a closely related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Teaching experience in Spanish, community college level preferred.

  • Experience in online instruction that meets federal guidelines for Regular and Substantive Interaction (RSI).

  • Skill in increasing inclusivity and closing opportunity gaps for historically marginalized students.

  • Ability to adapt teaching to various student learning styles.

  • Demonstrated experience effectively and respectfully working with students, staff, and colleagues of various cultural, ethnic, racial, educational, and socio-economic backgrounds.

  • Experience with Microsoft 365 applications, college learning management systems, and other appropriate instructional technologies.

Conditions of Employment

Centralia College faculty are represented by the Centralia College Federation of Teachers, Local No. 4469, AFT/AAFL-CIO.

COMPENSATION:

Current lecture/lab rates ($886.41 - $1,358.22 per credit)
