Adjunct - Fire Science

Ivy Tech Bloomington campus is searching for Fire Fighter professionals who are passionate about teaching the next generation of fire fighters the knowledge and skills it takes to be a great fire fighter. This is part time and range between 6-12 hours per week. Courses we are looking to fill are Firefighter 1, Firefighter 2, Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations. Classes meet in the evenings currently Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Adjuncts make $46.75 per contact hour (time in front of students). Adjunct Faculty are responsible for creating a learning environment that assists students in reaching their goals; and for providing effective instruction and assessment within the framework of common syllabi provided.

Applicants should apply by Oct 1st to be considered for the upcoming Oct semester. Interviews will happen on a rolling basis until positions are filled.

Major Responsibilities:

• Facilitates student learning by delivering assigned classes in accordance with College policy and course objectives.

• Makes optimal use of available technology to enhance instructional methods.

• Develops/maintains course outlines, syllabi, lesson plans, assignments, tests, and materials.

• Maintains accurate student records, grades, and other requirements.

• Engages with students in meaningful and productive ways that impact student learning and leads to a positive experience with Ivy Tech Community College, shows evidence of developing and implementing active classroom teaching strategies focused on engaging students with their learning (curricular).

• Interacts with students and co-workers in a professional and cooperative manner, complies with College policies, campus guidelines and expectations.

• Ensures knowledge of and implements emergency and safety procedures for classrooms, labs and all learning environments.

All responsibilities will be conducted within the parameters of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), other applicable regulatory requirements, and professional standards.

A faculty meets the credentialing standards by meeting each of the following:

• Firefighter I/II certification (Indiana)
• State Instructor II certification (Indiana)
• Hazmat Awareness and Operations Certification
• 2 years direct work related experience
