Description
The University of Mount Union continually seeks adjunct faculty in mathematics, computer science or data science dedicated to excellence in teaching who desire to become part of a creative, vibrant, student-centered learning community. Positions will be filled on an as-needed basis, varying by semester.
Responsibilities
Teach mathematics, computer science or data science courses which may include MTH 100 Intermediate Algebra, MTH 105 College Algebra, MTH 123 Statistics, CSC 112 Introduction to Computer Science, CSC 360 Computer Networks, DSC 140S Data Science Fundamentals, DSC 240 Data Analysis and Visualization Techniques, and/or DSC 250 Scientific Modeling and Data Analysis, up to 10 credit hours per semester. Courses are scheduled in person in the morning and afternoon each semester. Additional responsibilities include assessment of student performance, keeping classroom attendance records, and submission of early alerts and final grades by the required date.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree in mathematics, computer science, data science or a related field with a minimum of 18 graduate semester credits (27 graduate quarter credits) in mathematics, computer science or data science.
Ability to work with students at varied mathematical levels and from diverse backgrounds. Comfortable working with students who have mathematics anxiety.
Preferred Qualifications: Understand and demonstrate competencies in the use of technological resources for supplementing student learning (MyMathLab, etc.) Experience teaching college-level and developmental mathematics, computer science and/or data science.
Ability to use collaborative learning techniques and student-centered methods of instruction. Selected candidate will be required to provide official transcripts within 30 days of employment. Transcripts should be provided for the highest earned degree and/or the degree which is being used to satisfy credential/qualification requirements.
