Department Library Job Purpose

Adjunct Librarian, Part-time, is a temporary pool position that the Library hires from when needed. Adjunct Librarians could serve as members of the Library's Digital Services, Research & Scholarly Services, Special Collections, and/or Technical Services Departments. Applicants should address their experience, interests, and strengths in their cover letters when applying. This position primarily provides support to the full-time faculty librarians, administration, and staff, and may be hired to perform diverse library tasks, including cataloging or descriptive metadata work, collection development and maintenance, digitization, digital preservation, information literacy instruction, and research and technology support. Other library duties as assigned.

Essential Duties

  • Will primarily provide either (i) cataloging and metadata support, (ii) digitization, (iii) information literacy instruction, and/or (iv) research and technology support. Adjunct Librarians may take on more than one of the above primary responsibilities.

  • Instructs and supports library users, individually and in groups, guided by the Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education

  • In the absence of full-time librarians, oversees and is responsible for maintaining library services and library policies

  • Maintains the operations of the library department(s) hired into and the library as a whole, which includes but is not limited to, completing assigned tasks and projects, maintaining the proper operation of equipment, informally supervising staff and student workers, and following library policies.

Minimum Education Requirements

A Master's degree is required with ALA-accreditation preferred.
