Adjunct Instructor, Writing: Rhetoric & Composition

The Columbus College of Art & Design (CCAD) is seeking Part-Time Adjunct Instructors for our Writing, Literature and Philosophy Department to teach two first-year writing courses: Introduction to College Writing and Writing and the Arts.

These positions are for the Fall 2024 semester. Introduction to College Writing familiarizes students with close reading and the interpretation of a variety of texts as models that can be adopted in their own writing. Students write in a variety of academic genres, including autobiographical narrative, analytical, and research-based persuasive essay.

Writing and the Arts connects writing with art and design practices and emphasizes research and different modes of composition as methods of inquiry. Students develop cultural literacy concerning contemporary issues related to diversity, equity, and inclusion at the intersections of race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, class, disability, and other issues as they relate to art, design, and writing. Both courses emphasize writing as a process, from research, through prewriting, drafting, revising, and editing phases. Instructors for each course will be expected to engage with our First-Year Common Read for the '24-'25 AY.

Position: Adjunct Instructor, part-time

Qualifications: Terminal degree in writing or related field preferred with a minimum of two years of college-level teaching experience.

Application Deadline: Applications will be accepted until position is filled.

Date of Hire: Fall 2024

Please apply by visiting www.ccad.applicantpro.com/jobs/ and searching for Rhetoric & Composition. The application should include a letter of interest and resume or vita.

About Columbus:

As the 14th largest city in the country and the largest and fastest-growing city in Ohio, Columbus is collaborative, open, and dynamic. Between incredible arts and entertainment, exciting collegiate and professional sports, and a spectacular downtown riverfront of sprawling greenspace, Columbus has something for everyone.

Here, you'll find all the culture and amenities you'd expect in a major city, with the friendly and approachable attitude of the Midwest. Franklin County, where Columbus is located, is the epicenter of the state's political, economic, and social presence and is home to 1.3 million residents with a median age of 34. Columbus is a top city for equality and was the recipient of a perfect score from the Human Rights Campaign in 2020.
