Job Description: Math Adjunct (Adult Degree Pool)

Report To: Director, Center for Adult and Continuing Education

Department: CACE/ On Campus

Term: Temporary/nontenured

Pay: 1125 to 1925 per course

Class Size: 6-28

Position Summary: The Center for Adult and Continuing Education seek to develop a pool of adjunct candidates and maintains a pool of active candidates available for possible temporary/non-tenured positions to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the Adult Degree Program. Positions are not available every semester and are contingent upon student enrollment and the availability of funding. Temporary/nontenured faculty are appointed to teach one to four courses per semester.

Candidates from the ADP Adjunct pool will be selected to teach face-to-face and or online undergraduate/ graduate Math courses (College Algebra, Fundamental Concepts of Math for Elementary Education I Fundamental Concepts of Math for Elementary Education II, Math for Liberal Studies, Mathematical Concepts for Business, and Mathematics for Liberal Arts). Appointments are determined and approved on a semester-by-semester basis. Annual appointments may occur based on specific department needs. Eligibility for annual reappointment is contingent upon satisfactory performance evaluations during the term period, in addition to continuity of funding and departmental need.

Major Responsibilities: Responsibilities include teaching face-to-face sections math courses on the campus of Huston-Tillotson University in Austin, Texas, and or online (as assigned).

  • Delivers course content, learning activities, and assessments in a traditional learning environment and or online facilitation as assigned.

  • Post and follow the university-approved syllabus template utilizing the Universitys resources and materials, and learning management systems (Canvas)

  • Maintains accurate records of student attendance, academic achievement, performance, and procedures

  • Measures student achievement of course objectives in accordance with university policies

  • Responds to requests for information and or action from students and university administrators in a timely fashion (24 hours or less)

  • Communicates early with any student in danger of failure or in need of individual counseling-refers students to appropriate university resources for information, guidance, financial assistance, career development, etc

  • Collaborates with the instructional support team for online teaching orientation and course delivery preparation

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualified candidates must have a minimum of a masters degree with 18 graduate credit hours in the discipline (doctorate/terminal degree preferred). If the application documents at least 18 graduate credit hours in graduate-level mathematics courses, an advanced degree in mathematics education or a related field will be considered.

  • All course instructors/professors are expected to sign up for Canvas and the Quality Matters training before the appointment of their first appointment

  • Documented traditional and online teaching experience preferred.

Other Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated potential for excellence in classroom teaching.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (online, via email, learning management systems).

  • Successful completion of an employment and/or criminal history background check required
