Job Description:

The Siena College Criminal Justice Studies Interdisciplinary Program is seeking an instructor to teach one section of the following undergraduate course in the Fall 2024 semester:

Access to Justice for Vulnerable Populations

Course Description: CRJS 240: Access to Justice for Vulnerable Populations

This elective course for the Restorative Justice-focused Criminal Justice Studies major, will educate students on how to assure due process rights for vulnerable victims (including those with special needs, those with disabilities, and victims of sex-trafficking) who have been harmed and initiate criminal prosecution at the federal, state and local levels. Instruction will be given on best practices throughout each stage of criminal prosecution, including the handling of vulnerable victim interviews, charging considerations, plea bargain agreements, and trial tactics.

Training programs to educate law enforcement officials, prosecutors, and social service agencies will be explored, with an eye toward possibly expanding them. Students may have the opportunity to develop new policy ideas to ensure equal access to justice for all, thereby improving the criminal justice system. The Franciscan values of diversity and above all, social justice, will echo throughout this course via the lectures, readings and interpersonal connections and experiences offered.

Class Meeting time: Monday 5-8pm

Salary $1,287.50 per contact hour

The hiring salary above represent the College's good faith estimate at the time of posting in compliance with the Albany County Salary Transparency Law.

Requirements:

Applicants must possess a Master's degree in Sociology, Criminal Justice or a related field; PhD, ABD or JD preferred. Prior college teaching experience desired.

A background screening will be required.
