Job Description:

The First Year Experience Program at SUNY Old Westbury seeks to hire adjunct instructors to teach the First-Year Seminar, FY1000 Ethics of Engagement (4 credits). We anticipate openings for the Fall 2024 semester. Candidates for adjunct positions should have experience in a diverse educational environment and experience in teaching first time to college students.

The goal of the First-Year Program is to promote student academic success and engagement in the diverse Old Westbury campus community. The required first year curriculum includes a common first semester seminar, FY1000 Ethics of Engagement. The program promotes academic success by helping students to become intentional learners and develop the intellectual and social skills required to tackle the challenges of college learning and campus living - critical thinking, problem-solving, time-management, financial literacy and self-reflection.

Ethics of Engagement (FY1000), which students take in their first semester, emphasizes the themes of self-discovery, global citizenship, sustainability and the meaning of a liberal education. FY1000 satisfies Old Westbury's (and SUNY's) Humanities Domain and Old Westbury's Diversity Liberal Education requirement.
