Employment Terms: This job is a part-time, non-benefited, FLSA Exempt/Professional position in the Engineering Construction Manufacturing and Design Division that reports to the Program Director

  • Air Conditioning Technology.

Minimum Requirements (Job Code 10317)

  • Air Conditioning Technology AAT or AAS/AS. Two years of work experience beyond air conditioning education. Must hold Refrigerant Recovery Certification and minimum of Class I restricted State of Georgia License.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's in related discipline. Ten (10) years of full-time Residential and/or Commercial Air Conditioning service and installation experience. Postsecondary teaching experience.

Salary

  • Targeted salary is paid in a lump sum based on contact hours taught.

Job Description

  • Under general supervision, prepares lesson plans for classroom instruction for credited Air Conditioning/Electrical Technology courses at a Gwinnett Technical College. Develops program and syllabi, goals, and objectives. Teaches face-to-face, hybrid, and online classes as needed to provide course delivery and scheduling options that promote student retention and program completion. Evaluates students' progress in attaining goals and objectives. Requests and maintains supplies and equipment and prepares budget requests. Maintains program certification requirements, as appropriate. Prepares and maintains all required documentation and administrative reports. Attends staff development training, workshops, seminars, and conferences. Ensures safety and security requirements are met in the training area. Meets with students, staff members, and other educators to discuss students' instructional programs and other issues. Assists with recruitment, retention, and job placement efforts.

Prepares lesson plans for classroom instruction. (Performed by all incumbents)

  • Delivers effective individualized programs of instruction to class members.

  • Ensures adherence to technical college and safety requirements in classrooms and labs by following established procedures.

  • Correctly assesses the educational needs and class progress of students.

  • Selects and obtains appropriate educational materials for courses.

  • Prepares reports on the current status of students in the program indicating whether performance is aligned with performance indicators, program goals, and progress schedule.

  • Ensures consistency in syllabi, lesson plans, tests, and other appropriate materials.

Develops program and course outlines, goals, and objectives. (Performed by some incumbents)

  • Prepares appropriate curricula, including non-traditional content and methods to achieve the objectives and goals of students.

  • Follows designated and approved lesson plan(s) using appropriate techniques and aids.

  • Participates in standing or ad hoc committee meetings relating to curriculum development, extracurricular activities, and other technical college-sponsored activities or programs as required.

  • Prepares program reports for submission to the supervisor within specified time frames of request.

  • Maintains a presence on campus during regular business hours to be available for meetings, department functions, and administrative tasks.

Evaluates students' progress in attaining goals and objectives. (Performed by all incumbents)

  • Establishes criteria and tests the students to measure each student's progress.

  • Communicates students' progress to student and appropriate personnel and according to established guidelines.

  • Accurately records pertinent information in students' records as required.

  • Submits correct supply and equipment budget requests as necessary per established guidelines.

  • Performs and maintains classroom inventory according to established policies and procedures.

  • Maintains an organized and proper supply of classroom instructional materials.

  • Promptly notifies the supervisor of defective equipment.

  • Construct training modules, tools, materials, supplies, and equipment to comply with the local requirement for safety and security needs and per state and federal workplace safety standards.

  • Ensures students are instructed in and follow all safety rules for operating equipment and using tools.

  • Ensures classrooms and work areas are properly cleaned and maintained at all times.

  • Maintains a secure training and work area that proves freedom of movement for students during the performance of work and training assignments and complies with the security requirements of the organization.

  • Ensures work-related projects are completed and that they meet industry standards.

Meets with students, staff members, and other educators to discuss instructional programs, curricula, and issues impacting the progress of the students. (Performed by all incumbents)

  • Advises students on course selection and other pertinent matters professionally and effectively.

  • Conducts office hours and is available on campus during regular business hours to assist walk-in students as needed

  • Actively participates in staff and faculty meetings as needed to discuss students' progress, problems, and/or programs.

  • Serves as a mentor for adjunct faculty within the program area; is available on campus for adjunct faculty who teach face-to-face or hybrid classes.
