Position Title: Adjunct, Geographical Information Systems Full Time or Part Time Status:

The GIS Certificate Program at Saint Joseph's University is requesting applications for a part-time adjunct instructor position in Geographical Information Systems beginning in fall 2023 and continuing. Adjuncts will teach one to two courses per semester.

Applicants must have a master's degree (preferably in GIS), OR a GISP license, OR significant work experience. Applicants with teaching experience are especially sought after. Applicants must have advanced skills in the ESRI arcGIS suite of software.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Preparation of materials for class sessions

  • Maintaining and updating course site on the Canvas learning platform

  • Delivering lectures, leading class discussions, preparing and grading learning assessments

  • Calculating and reporting grades

Secondary Responsibilities: Minimum Requirements:

  • A master's degree in GIS or an advanced degree in a related field

  • Teaching or significant work experience in GIS

  • Demonstrated experience with GIS software

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate teaching experience in GIS
  • Experience in a specialized area of GIS (cartography, census mapping, remote sensing, web mapping, etc.)
  • Experience with GIS in a discipline-specific context (environmental science, public policy, sociology, criminal justice, etc.)

Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours:

Depending on scheduling, ability to teach in the evenings may be required.
