General Description of Work

Whatcom Community College invites applications for part-time, adjunct faculty Physics Instructor position for Fall quarter 2024 and to expand the pool of instructors for future positions that may occur. Applications will be kept on file through the current academic year.

The successful candidate:

  • Demonstrates content knowledge in Physics.

  • Uses student centered inclusive pedagogy with innovative and inclusive curriculum and teaching methods.

  • Engages in collaborative communication, practices, and activities with students and colleagues.

  • Appreciates the differences in people and integrates diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout.

  • Develops innovative ideas/solutions to workplace challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and implement instructional material for lecture/lab, studio courses in a face-to-face format.

  • Hold office hours in either a face-to-face or online format.

  • Prepare and evaluate assessments for course settings.

  • Collaborate with other instructors.

  • Read and respond to emails from students, faculty, and staff.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A master's degree in physics or a closely related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching in physics.

  • Commitment to excellence and quality in learner-centered instruction.

  • Experience with a learning management system, particularly Canvas.

  • Actively contributes to a work and learning environment that embraces diversity and uses diverse perspectives to enhance the attainment of the College's mission.

  • A willingness to meet with current physics faculty to discuss class materials and resources, lab equipment, and/or teaching strategies.

Salary

Salary:

  • $7,673.82 per class.

Benefit Package:

  • Accrues a percentage of 7 hours (equal to the percentage of workload) per month of sick leave (ex. 50% quarterly employment contract x 7 hrs for full-time = 3.5 hrs per month for that quarter.)
