Job Description:

Massachusetts College of Art and Design (MassArt) is seeking a dynamic and experienced practitioner educator to join our Master of Design Innovation (MDES) program for the fall semester. The successful candidate will lead "Market Insight Lab," a course designed to give students hands-on experience developing strategic insights through generative design research.

Courses are held in-person, typically in the early evening. This course enjoys a small classroom setting of 6 to 10 students and asks students to collaborate as a studio team.

You will have a strong sense of autonomy to shape the course according to the rapidly evolving practices of strategic research, and are welcome to draw on our community of faculty, alumni, and community partners to shape and advance the exploration of the field.

As part of the teaching team, you are not required to attend additional meetings beyond your course but you will be given access to a community of practitioners and educators exploring the frontiers of design, strategy, and innovation.

This is a part-time contract position.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop and deliver engaging and relevant course content for Market Insight Lab.

• Guide students through hands-on projects that involve real-world user research and analysis.

• Foster a collaborative and inclusive learning environment that encourages creativity, critical thinking, and active participation.

• Provide constructive feedback and support to students to shape impactful, world-class insights.

• Encourage the use of modern technologies made available to students for generating insights, while framing discussion and reflection about the role of new technologies in the pursuit of modern research practices.

• Collaborate with the MDES program faculty and staff to align course objectives and activities across multiple studios.

• Aid students in storytelling and promotion of their insights through MDES online presence or in-person programming.

Requirements:

• Strong sense of curiosity, humor, and creativity.

• Advanced degree in Social Sciences, Design, Business, Marketing, or a related field. A Ph.D./DBA or terminal degree is not required but will be given preference.

• Proven experience in market research, consumer insights, innovation strategy, or a related field.

• Demonstrated experience with generative design research uncovering novel insights about human behavior.

• Background in theoretical and applied expertise in social sciences such as anthropology, psychology, or sociology.

• Prior teaching experience at the undergraduate or graduate level is highly desirable.

• Strong storytelling skills and an appreciation for the role of presentation in making insights impactful.

• Ability to inspire and mentor students from diverse backgrounds.

• Commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive academic environment.
