The Hampton University Department of Marketing, Economics and Entrepreneurship invites nominations for an Economics Adjunct at the rank of Instructor beginning January 11, 2018.

Founded in 1868, Hampton University is a leading historically black university (HBCU) located on the Virginia Peninsula in the City of Hampton. It is a privately endowed, co-educational, nonsectarian institution. The Department of Economics provides rigorous training in economic analysis. Students are exposed to applications of economic techniques used in public sector, private and international business environments. Through the study of standard economic models, students learn to identify, explain and describe the major features and functions of an economy. Successfully completing the major enables students to analyze, synthesize and evaluate economic, social and business issues.

Duties and Responsibilities

The faculty member will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Teach undergraduate Economics courses

  • Provide instruction based on course description, and outlines, and course schedules

  • Provide and maintain a learning environment that emphasizes, encourages sound discussions and critical thinking

  • Discuss current economic topics

  • Maintain academic standards and professional ethics

  • Evaluate students' academic progress and grade students' work

  • Meet regularly with students and facilitate the learning process when needed

  • Maintain accurate academic records

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Chairperson or Dean.

Qualifications

All candidates should have earned a PhD or Master's Degree in Economics or Master's degree and 18 graduate semester hours in Economics from an accredited university. Candidates will be considered with a minimum of two years of college-level teaching. Work experience will also be considered.

VIEW JOBS 12/26/2018 12:00:00 AM 2019-03-26T00:00 Thomas Nelson seeks faculty to teach up to 12 credit hours in the fall and spring semester and/or up to 8 credit hours during the summer semester. Teaching load is based upon student enrollment and staffing needs. Applicants will be part of a standing pool which the College will draw on as scheduling needs dictate. The adjunct faculty appointment contains no guarantee of continued employment. Instruction may be during the day, evening, or weekend. This position will teach Chemistry classes and labs such as College Chemistry I and II, General Chemistry I and II, and Organic Chemistry I and II. Essential functions: * Design and delivery of instruction for day and evening classes. * Responsible for student assessment and grading. * Maintains adequate on-campus presence. * Provides timely communication with students, staff and administrators of the College. Minimum Qualifications * Master's degree in Chemistry or Master's degree with at least 18 graduate credit hours in Chemistry from a regionally accredited institution. * Have a passion for the discipline and a commitment to a student-centered philosophy in support of academic excellence for diverse groups of learners. * Strong written and verbal communication skills with a focus on presentation and dissemination of curriculum. * Ability to learn and implement technology in the instructional process is preferred. * Experience and/or strong interest in teaching and inspiring adult learners to fulfill the College's mission to change lives and empower students to succeed. * Excellent leadership skills. * Excellent interpersonal skills in communication with students, colleagues, staff and administrators as an individual or as a part of a team. * Demonstrated ability to measure, assess and align student outcomes within courses or programs. * Ability to modify when appropriate, instructional methods and strategies to meet diverse student needs. * Plan and organize instruction in ways that maximize documented student learning. * Develop and explain methods that fairly measure student progress toward student learning outcomes. * Evaluate student performance fairly and consistently and return student work promptly to promote maximum learning. * Maintain accurate records of student progress and submit final grade rosters to division administrator each semester according to established deadlines. * Must be able to work at all campus locations. Preferred Qualifications * Experience in curriculum development. * Community college teaching experience. * Teaching experience in online or hybrid, and traditional face to face classroom modalities.
