Required Degree: Bachelor's degree. The required degree must be completed by the start date.
Experience:
Experience in marching band/color guard required
Experience required in various sub groups of the guard unit, i.e. flags, rifles, dance, etc.
Experience composing and choreographing routines for the various color guard units is required
Experience teaching students is required
Duties/Expectations: As an assistant to the color guard director, the color guard assistant will help coordinate the preparations, exercises, and activities of the marching band's color guard to prepare and direct the group for performances integrated within the larger marching band organization.
Assist in designing color guard programs that effectively complement and enhance the visual and musical program of the marching ban
Assist in evaluating members' abilities and design equipment carriage accordingly
Work closely with the marching band director
Attend all rehearsals and performances, instruct members in fundamental and advanced dance, flag, and weapon techniques
Assist in choreographing color guard routines as an integrated part of the marching band (field show, parade routine, stand dances)
Aid in creating rehearsal plans in cooperation with color guard director
Ensure the highest possible level of performance from the color guard members through a proper warm-up process, effective preparation, and attention to individual members
Assist in recruiting potential color guard candidates while retaining current members
Ensure that the color guard is properly equipped for rehearsals and performances
Assist in managing all equipment necessary for rehearsals and performances including maintenance, repair, and acquisitions recommendations
Other related duties, as assigned, to assist the band director prepare students for performances and appearances
