General Description of Work

Whatcom Community College invites applications for a part-time Adjunct Faculty position to teach CS and SD beginning spring quarter, 2024. The College is seeking a dynamic individual interested in developing and engaging students through the use and implementation of innovative and inclusive curriculum and teaching methods, including the application of technology, both inside and outside the classroom. The College seeks faculty who can adapt to a variety of teaching situations and who can work effectively and collaboratively with students, colleagues, staff, and others in a campus climate that promotes cultural diversity and global understanding.

Being a faculty member at Whatcom offers the opportunity to engage in the advancement of equitable student outcomes and the elimination of equity gaps. Faculty have regular opportunities for on-campus professional development, collaboration with colleagues, and engagement in workshops and learning communities. Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related degree or equivalent training and experience or a combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Computer Science or related discipline.

  • A strong background in Java and other languages.

  • Two or more years of experience in teaching or in industry.

  • Ability to teach lab-based classes.

  • A desire to provide a unique and quality experience for students.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and communication abilities with students and colleagues.

  • Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion.

  • An understanding of, and commitment to, the mission of the community college.

  • Willingness to stay current in the field.

Salary

Salary:

  • $6,577.00 for spring quarter.

Benefit Package:

  • Accrues a percentage of 7 hours (equal to the percentage of workload) per month of sick leave (ex. 50% quarterly employment contract x 7 hrs for full-time = 3.5 hrs per month for that quarter).

Start Date:

  • Spring Quarter 2024.
