William Paterson University invites applications for the positon of Adjunct Faculty in the Communication Studies area of the Department of Communication within the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences.

Adjuncts are sought to teach in-person Undergraduate courses in Communication Studies. Courses taught by adjunct faculty in Communication Studies are generally limited to the following two courses. However, occasionally an upper-level course may be available:
For upper level course, when available, preference will be given to qualified candidates with doctorates in Communication Studies and/or significant teaching experience. Preferred qualifications are described in detail below.
Department Overview:
The award-winning Department of Communication helps students unlock their creative potential in fields such as communication studies, media studies, journalism, film, video, audio and radio production, public relations, and theatre and comedy. Our communication students conduct research, write news, make films, produce and broadcast TV and radio shows, launch PR campaigns, create and manage social media content, and much more. They learn in state-of the-art facilities, including our HD TV broadcast studios, radio station, film production lab, digital audio production lab, several digital video and audio editing rooms, and our new Social Media Applications Research and Teaching SMART lab. The Communication studies area prepares studies for a wide variety of corporate and non-profit job.

Duties and responsibilities of adjuncts include, but are not limited to:
Using the course outline as a guide, develop relevant syllabi in order to deploy course content, objectives, and methods of student assessment for up to three credits per semester in an undergraduate course (see course listings above). Ensure that syllabi meet stated course objectives, with clearly stated expectations and thoroughly described assessments.
Contribute to student success by providing consistent and effective support and guidance through role modeling and mentoring and being regularly and consistently available to the students for their questions and needs.
Effectively meet teaching responsibilities
Required Qualifications for Undergraduate Communication Studies courses:
Required: Masters in Communication or relevant Social Studies discipline
Required: two-three years teaching experience
Ability to teach well and engage students
Preferred Qualifications:
Doctorate in Communication or relevant Social Studies discipline OR Doctorate in Communication or relevant Social Studies discipline
Professional certification and/or continuing professional education relevant to Communication Studies
Professional activity within discipline such as relevant-to-teaching area leadership, conference activity and publications
Personal Attributes and Traits:
Up-to-date understanding of pedagogical approaches that enhance curriculum relevance.
Demonstrated commitment to replying to student emails within 24 hours
Timely grading
Demonstrated engagement in continuous professional development activities.
Demonstrated commitment to content, teaching excellence, assessment strategies, and positive outcomes.
Ability to work effectively and constructively with persons of diverse cultures, gender identities, language groups, and abilities; demonstrate sensitivity to and ability to work with the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Capability of exhibiting patience and resourcefulness in managing student challenges.
Ability to effectively address competing wants and needs by developing and sustaining robust working relationships in a diverse environment.
Demonstrated ability to set and work toward common goals in a collaborative environment.
