Job Summary: The adjunct faculty member in the construction management program will instruct students in a course and any associated lab(s) that align with individual expertise and experience. These courses are to encompass the theoretical and hands-on aspects of residential and commercial construction and related processes. Courses in the program include but are not limited to construction safety, plumbing, electrical, drywall and finishes, masonry and concrete, HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, residential building codes, estimating, contract administration, introduction to architectural drawing, and 3-D modeling. Courses in the construction management program.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Respects and upholds university values
Demonstrates behavior congruent to these values with students in classrooms and lab spaces; and with campus colleagues
Implements and upholds university and departmental policies in the classroom
Prepares instructional materials and instructs students in selected construction courses
Develops and/or selects appropriate instructional materials for selected assigned courses
Performs duties associated with instructing and assessing student progress in a timely way. These include but are not limited to grading and required record keeping according to university guidelines
Teaches day and/or evening classes/labs as available (in consultation with the chair)
Stays current in the construction field and various trade skills
Employment Qualifications: (Required)
Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities to work with university students
Demonstrated competencies in the varied trade area(s) relevant to course content(s)
Demonstrated ability to develop curriculum in accordance with industry standards
Experience with skill/trade practices and trends; willingness to integrate new skills and technology
Bachelor's degree in a construction management related field
Employment Qualifications: (Desirable)
Earned Master's degree in a construction management related field from an accredited institution; or equivalent foreign degree, plus two years of professional experience directly related to construction and construction management
Successful college-level teaching experience
General Contractors license
Demonstrated formal training and continuing education in the skills/trades
Recent professional work experience in construction.
Knowledge of health and safety regulations of TN and O.S.H.A. regulations
Completion of courses or training in educational theory and practice
