Job Description:

Under the direction of the Chair of the School of the Department of Acupuncture and East Asian Medicine, administer the didactic curriculum based on a competency based education program with clearly articulate outcomes, objectives and performance criteria.

Essential Responsibilities:

Instructional duties and responsibilities include instruct and assess students acupuncture education in a didactic setting as part of their acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine program(s). Bastyr University follows quarter system. Each quarter is 11 weeks of in-class teaching.

  • Employee is responsible for the following:

  • Teaching the above course(s) as scheduled.

  • Ensuring that learning objectives are met.

  • Finding a substitute or making up the material missed if Employee misses any scheduled class times. Compensation will be adjusted for missed classes according to published policies at MyBU>Bastyr Policies>II. Human Resources>8.5 Sick & Safe Leave.

  • Ensuring that all requirements associated with the completion of a class are met. This includes, but is not exclusive to, remediation and makeup exams as well as conducting student course assessment(s) during the University-designated time(s).

  • Completing new employee online orientation by stated deadline.

  • Completing state-mandated sexual harassment prevention training as required (for which Employee is compensated upon completion).

  • Being available to students for advising by appointment.

  • Meeting with the appropriate department chair/dean as needed and/or appropriate.

  • Completing and posting all course syllabi to the online course management system by the stated deadline.

  • Submitting all grades and attendance rosters to the Office of the Registrar by the stated deadline.

  • Submitting book orders to the University Bookstore by the stated deadline.

  • Ensuring that no final exam exceeds the normally scheduled class time and that all final exams are administered during the week designated as finals week, unless otherwise scheduled and reported through the program office.

  • Obtaining prior approval from the appropriate department chair/dean for all guest lecturers.

  • Using the designation of "adjunct faculty" only during the academic year in which Employee is teaching.

  • Completing any additional mandatory training by the stated deadlines.

Qualifications and Requirements:

Candidate must have a master's degree in acupuncture or acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine with demonstrated ability working and communicating effectively with diverse student, faculty, and staff populations. Active diplomate status with NCCAOM is required as is Washington state acupuncture licensure. Prior teaching experience preferred. DAc or DAOM degree preferred.
