Adjunct ESL Instructor

Essential Functions

Northwest University's (NU) Center for English Language Education (CELE) is seeking adjunct ESL professors to teach 1-2 ESL classes for international students at our main campus in Kirkland, WA beginning in the Fall 2024 Semester (August 26th - December 13th). CELE is NU's intensive English program that serves both degree and non-degree seeking ESL students wanting to improve their English skills.

Instructors need to prepare and deliver lessons, utilize Moodle CMS, Microsoft 365, and textbook online platforms, give appropriate feedback, and submit grades in a timely matter. Teachers in our CELE program are expected to attend 1 CELE student event a semester and bi-monthly teacher meetings to the best of their abilities.

Qualifications

The successful candidate:

Holds a doctorate or master's degree in TESOL or a closely related field from an accredited college or university. Holding an additional CELTA or SIT TESOL Certificate is a plus.

Has a demonstrated record of successful ESL/EFL teaching with student-centered language learning principles.

Has experience, or an interest and willingness, to learn new technology. Must be willing to adapt quickly to flexible classroom technology requirements.

Possesses a deep, personal commitment to Jesus Christ and to the Spirit-filled life.

Establishes and maintains positive relationships with students, faculty, university staff, and the general constituency of the University.

Compensation

Instructor is paid per credit at the rate of $775 per credit. Classes are usually 3-6 credits each.

The University is also approved by the Board of Education and Superintendent of Public Instruction of the State of Washington to prepare elementary and secondary education teachers and recommend for certification. It is a member of the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education. Northwest University's doctoral program in counseling psychology is accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA).

The University is approved by the Federal and State Governments for student aid programs and for the training of international students. Selected programs of study are approved by a Washington State Approving Agency for enrollment of those eligible for benefits under Title 38 and Title 10, U.S.

Code and by Washington State for training in Vocational Rehabilitation. It is listed in the current bulletin, "Accredited Higher Education Institutions," published by the U.S. Office of Education.
