Department Summary

The University of Michigan's Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), a unit within Student Life, is a multidisciplinary and multi-theoretical university counseling center with over 45 licensed professional staff, 5 support staff, and over 15 advanced professionals in training. CAPS serves a diverse student body of over 50,000 students. CAPS provides culturally humble clinical services, outreach programming, and training opportunities. Approximately 5,000 students each year receive individual clinical services at CAPS.

Job Summary

CAPS is seeking applicants for adjunct counseling positions that would be located either in our Central office or at specific schools/colleges on our campus. This is an 8-month temporary, part-time or full-time appointment. Starting date and hours are negotiable.

Responsibilities*

Clinical

  • Individual counseling: 65%
  • Crisis intervention: 10%
  • Providing consultation to UM staff and faculty: 5%

Administrative

  • Clinical consultation and documentation 20%

Required Qualifications*

  • Doctoral degree in Clinical or Counseling Psychology, or a closely related flied, from an APA-accredited program, and APA-accredited internship

  • Licensed/license eligible in the State of Michigan

  • Clinical experience with a college student/young adult population is required

Salary may vary depending on qualifications, experience, and education of the selected candidate.

Relocation will not be offered for this position.

We are on the AATA bus route.What does it take to get hired in our Service Center?There are lots of things we are hoping to find in anyone who applies. But we don't have a lot of hoops to jump through. Absolutely no prior experience is necessary. There are just five key things you'll need to be able to do: * You can type at least 40 words per minute. It's not super fast, but it's not slow. We'll give you a test. Feel free to prep and take practice runs at typingtest.com. * You know your way around a computer and the internet. * You can read, speak, and write fluently in English. * You can commit to your training which will be 4 consecutive days, you can choose between day & evening sessions. * You may work a minimum of three shifts per week. We're open seven days a week. The three (or more) shifts may be any combination of the shift times below.
