Job Description:
The Department of English, Communications and Media seeks eligible adjunct instructors to teach undergraduate courses in Communications and Media. Possible course assignments include Introduction to Media Writing, Feature Writing, and Editing & Publishing; other courses may become available. Appointments are made on a semester-by-semester basis (fall/spring) with hiring decisions made in late spring/early summer for the fall semester and early fall for the spring semester.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prepare and teach in-person, on-campus sessions weekly for up to 18 students, following a course syllabus submitted at the start of the semester to the department chair.
Grade and return student assignments in a timely manner, providing meaningful feedback to help students develop as writers.
Instruct students on standards of academic and journalistic integrity and demand ethical original reporting.
Post syllabus, assignments and other course information to our Learning Management System, Canvas. (Technical assistance is available.)
Work collaboratively with department faculty to sequence course content in the Communications major and to meet departmental learning outcomes.
Use Salve email (i.e., @salve.edu) to send and receive official email correspondence with students, staff, and administrators.
Requirements:
A master's degree in communications or related field (e.g., journalism, creative writing, English) is required. Candidates with undergraduate teaching experience and/or professional experience in media industries strongly preferred.
