Position Summary

The clinical nursing instructor is a member of a nursing faculty team, providing clinical instruction leading to a Certificate of Completion in Practical Nursing and Associate Degree in Nursing. Provide initial advisement to students and supervision of clinical experiences. Duties are performed in the context of a comprehensive community college, understanding of the community college mission and philosophy will be critical to success.

Duties & Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Provide instruction within a clinical facility.

• Supervise patient care, physical assessments, and the administration of medications.

• Collaborate with the Nursing Program Director regarding student performance.

• Provide ongoing and timely feedback to students regarding clinical performance, paperwork, and documentation.

• Maintain student and client information in a confidential manner.

• Plan student assignments in relation to the student's level and the course objectives.

• Assist students to acquire appropriate knowledge, skills and attitudes required of professional nurses.

• Communicate clearly with students and colleagues.

• Establish and maintain an effective learning environment in the clinical setting.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to:

• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Requires frequent and continuous sitting/moving about, continuous use of fine motor skills, and lifting, pushing and pulling of up to 35 lbs.

SCHEDULE DETAILS:

Must be available to work a minimum of 20 hours and maximum of 29 hours per week. Clinical shifts are 0600-1500 or 1400-2300. Scheduling of shifts is based on program need. Additional hours outside of clinical shifts are required for grading.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• The successful applicant will hold a State of New Mexico or Compact State RN license with two years recent professional experience as an RN.

• BSN is required.

• Strong commitment to quality teaching, student success, and academic excellence is required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• A Master of Science in Nursing degree

• Teaching experience in a community college or technical school
