Yakima Valley College seeks innovative adjunct Biology Instructors committed to community college students and their success. This position is part-time, non-tenure track.
Reporting to the Dean - Arts and Sciences, the adjunct Biology Instructor will be accomplished and active in their discipline, committed to participating in a multicultural, interdisciplinary learning environment, and skilled in the technology of learning and research.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience teaching a variety of Biology courses to a highly diverse community college population
Experience or evidence of willingness to work in a participatory collegiate community (e.g., committees, college activities)
Experience using a variety of classroom methodologies (e.g., assessment, collaborative learning, classroom technologies, interactive teaching)
Experience developing Biology and/or other science curricula
Understanding of and commitment to the community college philosophy and life-long learning
Experience or interest in teaching populations diverse in age, culture, and ethnicity
Experience teaching at the high school level
JOB PROFILE:
The primary responsibility of the instructor is to teach courses in General Biology, Anatomy and Physiology, and other biology classes and labs as assigned. Instructors typically teach 1-2 courses per quarter requiring 2-4 hours in the classroom or mentoring students on a daily basis
Additional responsibilities include participation in college-wide registration and advising, a commitment to systematic classroom/department/college assessment and improvement, adequate preparation for course instruction, course and curriculum planning, and availability for student consultation outside of class on a daily basis
Other responsibilities include maintenance of high expectations for students, participation in campus-wide committees, ordering textbooks and audio visual materials, assessment and evaluation of individual student progress, maintenance of student records, referring students to other appropriate college staff as necessary, and demonstration of student-centered values consistent with the community college philosophy
