Adjunct Assistant Professor

Adjunct Chemistry Lab Instructor:

This position will report directly to the Chairman of the Natural Sciences Department.

Job Description:

The department of Natural Sciences offers a BS degree in Biochemistry. It offers a range of chemistry laboratory courses which service our major, as well as several of the professional and non-professional programs in the school.

We invite applicants to teach laboratory course sections. In particular, we presently seek instructors for General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Biochemistry, as well as Analytical Chemistry lab courses. The responsibilities include teaching a 3-hour laboratory class which consist first of a 30 to 40 minutes recitation during which the relevance and objectives of the experiment are explained, along with some safety instructions, and second, grading student pre-lab assignments, and lab reports. Duties will also include lab preparation, maintaining the chemical stockroom, and cleaning after each lab session.

Qualifications:

Successful applicant should have a Ph.D. in Chemistry or a closely related discipline and a record of teaching chemistry laboratories with hands-on experience. Candidates with a Master's Degree and a strong teaching record at the college level or active industrial practice will also, be considered. All candidates must possess a Certificate of Fitness, since all Science Laboratories in LIU Brooklyn are FDNY permitted non-production chemical laboratories, and therefore the certificate of fitness for supervision is a requirement during lab operations.
